My secret love

A Lion x Heather fanfic

How could he love her? They were simply tunnelmates; friends who played games in the tunnels beneath their territories. But she was too beautiful and kind to just forget. After all, we are DarkClan, Lionpaw thought, padding down the tunnel. The hard rock echoed against his pawsteps as he descended. He sniffed the air and picked up his best friend's sweet scent. As the light grew again, he knew that he was reaching the cave with the river, the cave that had a gap in the roof, which let dim light filter through. Blue eyes greeted him as he stepped into the cave. As always, his amber eyes widened at the sight of Heatherpaw's stunning pelt. She ran to him the moment she laid eyes on him. Golden tabby fur mingled with light brown tabby as the brushed close together in greeting. Their tails twined, they padded to sit beside the underground river, and Lionpaw knew he loved her, his secret WindClan love. They stayed silent for a while, simply admiring each other's presence. Then Heatherpaw broke the silence.
"How have you been?" she mewed.
"Missing you," he answered softly, pressing closer.
Then she leapt up. Lionpaw wondered what he had done wrong, but before he could ask, she was circling him, her tail swishing side to side. "How's training?" she laughed. "I dunno. You'll have to find out!" he chortled fondly, leaping to his paws and fluffing out his fur until he resembled a bush. At that she snorted, which echoed around the cave.
She made the first move, swiping a paw at him. Typical WindClan cat, using her speed and agility to connect with his ear. Well, he would use his ThunderClan skills. He jumped on top of her. He used his weight and strength to hold her down, pummelling her with sheathed claws until she wriggled away in surrender. "Fine. You win!" she huffed fondly. "Your training must be going well?"
"Yeah," he agreed. "Ashfur's a great mentor. He teaches me the best moves, and he's so smart!" "It sounds like you're in love with him!" she joked. At that, Lionpaw fell silent, contemplating whether to tell her or not. Heatherpaw looked at him in concern. "Lionpaw? Are you okay?" she meowed. "Did I hit a nerve?" she tried joking again, to lighten the tension that fizzed in the air.
"I have a confession to make," Lionpaw meowed. "What, that you like him?" she laughed, stopping when she saw the serious look he gave her.
"No, I like you," he confessed, pressing against her again.
"I like you too," she meowed, "I thought you knew that."
"Nooooo, I like, like you."
"As in, you love me?!" "Yep, pretty much."
She twined her tail with his more forcefully and harder now. "Me too."
