An Amphibian's Love
(Which is Never Returned)
Todd Tolansky considered himself to be a true romantic-one of the very few in this modern day and age. Unfortunately, he was either mocked for his efforts of love or rejected (verbally and physically).
For instance, the instant attraction he had once had for Rogue.
She had reacted with revulsion at all his attempts. He tried giving her flowers-she shoved them into his mouth. After that he tried a classic, chocolate; she dumped the box in the garbage as soon as he handed it to her. Then he flat out kissed her. Which, considering her powers, had not been a good idea. He ended up lying in bed for a week and she was worse to him than before.
Freddy, Pietro, and Lance all laughed-finding it tremendously funnier than Todd did.
When Wanda came around, he was completely entrapped-regardless that as she tried to kill her brother she hadn't cared whether or not anyone else got hurt.
He tried everything with her-candy, flowers, cute and sentimental nicknames, taking her out at night to show her the best spots to stargaze, and even saving her life on a number of occasions. Nevertheless, she constantly hexed him, hit him, and/or insulted him.
Freddy, Pietro, and Lance laughed even harder at that-it was always funnier when a chick that had been in an insane asylum and hadn't been in a relationship, EVER, rejected him.
Then he got attracted to one of the least likely people on the whole of the planet. They were just like the other two-angsty, full of emotional problems, related somehow to one of his bosses-yet was considerably different. It was a guy. Namely, Nightcrawler. Kurt Wagner, the German X-Jerk. (Who was fuzzy and had an awesome tail.)
Todd tried, really tried, to do things right with him. He'd try to be civil to the older teen, chivalrous even. He'd hold open doors for the blue boy, pull out chairs right next to where he was sitting, and even carried his books to class for him sometimes.
Kurt had, at first, thought it was a joke. When he realized Todd was serious, however, he picked up the habit of groaning whenever the other boy was near. When a door was held open for him, he'd hit it against one of Todd's body parts-usually the nose. When a chair was pulled out, he'd make a point to sit somewhere-anywhere else. And when his books were so graciously taken from his hands and carried to his class, he'd sulk and curse the boy in German all the way there.
In fights Todd would now tackle Kurt with a hug rather than a kick. The blue teen was not so gentle or loving; he'd hit Todd off with his tail, often in the most uncomfortable of places. Then he'd smirk at the smaller boy's pain.
Yet none of that deterred the romantic Todd, who decided it a great treat for Kurt to sneak into his room at night and leave little gifts. That he'd later have thrown at him one way or another. Once, Kurt choked him with a silver, heart-shaped locket which held a picture of the two of them together; Todd was the only one smiling.
Freddy, Pietro, and Lance laughed the hardest at this-it was always the funniest when Todd was rejected by a guy.
