It's isn't long before Fitz hears his door slide open and then shut again. Half awake he wonders who could be opening and closing his door before his bed dips and really cold toes graze his shins. He wants to push the person out of his bed but he doesn't because she comes settle next to and on him.
She smiles briefly in the dark at him and its more than enough to warrant him a reason for her to stay.
If anyone asks it was just he was having a rough night. The excuse could work an probably would. Especially after what happened the other day with Donnie. Fitz still felt bad for what had happened at the academy. He couldn't help it but feel like he was at fault no matter how many times the team had reassured him he wasn't.
But also Jemma coming and curling up on his chest and freezing toes pressed against his shins also severed as a reminder of just why he was there on the Bus in the first place. She cuddled closer to him and dropped a kiss to his shoulder when he wrapped his arm around her and held on.
"Jemma…"
"Shh." She whispered. "We'll talk in the morning."
He doesn't argue with her but he knows they won't talk about it in the morning they never do. That's how they work sometimes just by being there it soothes each other. They are each a half of a whole.
So he lets go for just a moment and traces his way up to the base of her neck. Kneading it gently he can also feel the necklace she never takes off still in place. He can't help but smile because he knows what's at the other end. Two sets of rings and a small pendent. Things he was quite sure never came off from around her neck except for when it was required to. Even then she still had it on her person.
"Mmhm. That's not sleeping." She sighed against him. He honestly couldn't help the chuckle that escaped before his hands drifted back down around her waist.
"Just checking." He says quietly and then lets the subject go.
