AN: Surprise! Today is my birthday, so I decided to give you a tiny little Hanxleia birthday fluff (Seriously, tiny. Like less than 300 words.) This is set pre-Empire and involves a slight bit of canon divergence-but I think you will forgive me for that.
I wrote this in under an hour and had no beta, so all mistakes are my own.
Have no fear, we will be back to our regularly scheduled fic on Sunday!
"Good night, Han! Happy birthday!" Luke called as he left Han's ship. He and Chewie had thrown an impromptu surprise get-together for Han's birthday. The rogues had all shown up, and even Leia had made an appearance late into the evening, after she went off duty.
"Thanks, kid. Thanks for the…ah…sweater," Han replied. Chewie wuffed goodnight and shuffled off to his hammock. Han downed the last of his whiskey and turned to head to his cabin.
The party hadn't been awful by anybody's standards, but Han wasn't much for surprises or birthdays. They both reminded him of bad times, when people didn't jump out at you to yell surprise but to put a blaster bolt between your eyes, and two decades' worth of birthdays spent alone and miserable.
Leia was standing in the corner, nervous, as if she looked like she didn't belong.
"Somethin' I can do for you, Your Worship?" Han asked, wondering how he missed her non-exit.
"I didn't get to give you my gift," she replied quietly.
"You didn't have to get me anything, Princess."
"It's…it's not much. Close your eyes," she directed. He did as he was told, hearing her move toward him.
His eyes sprung open when she brushed her lips over his. It was over far too fast, and he wanted to take her into his arms and do a better job, but he was paralyzed. Frozen to the spot.
"Happy birthday, Captain," she whispered before bolting from his ship, boots ringing hollowly on the durasteel.
The kiss had been so short that he wouldn't have believed it'd happened if he didn't feel heat radiating to every part of his body from the point of impact.
Maybe it hadn't been such a bad birthday, after all.
AN: Please R&R! I can't think of a better birthday gift than a sweet review from all of you (except for maybe a kiss from Han Solo)!
