Poofed. Again. It had been so long since Lapis had been here again. How trapped, how helpless, how terrified she felt – and now thoughts came bubbling up like a drowning man's breath, a storm of thoughts everywhere she turned in the dark, dark water:
This was a mistake. She shouldn't have come back. She was trapped again. She was trapped forever, a Crystal Gem at the mercy of the Diamonds. What was she thinking? What was she thinking?
It had all happened so fast. Peridot just stepped right up to the Diamonds – of course she'd do that, of course – and Lapis grabbed her Gem and she fought for her life.
She fought for their life. She fought for lazy days on the farm, reading magazines and riding tractors. She fought for nights spent sitting on the roof, naming the stars. She fought for Pumpkin. She fought for meep morps. She fought for Camp Pining Hearts.
She fought because she couldn't bear to be sitting on the moon, so dull and lonely. She fought because she had a life on Earth, and that life was worth fighting for.
She fought for the Crystal Gems. And even though she was terrified at what she would see when she reformed, there was some comfort in knowing that she chose this. She chose to stay, and she chose to fight. And if the Diamonds were going to punish her for being a Crystal Gem, at least she chose to be one.
And with that in mind, she took form.
