This was the product of my frustrations with Word while it for whatever reason deleted an entire 10k word file without any backups... Needless to say I was angry and frustrated enough to torture poor Fitz...
Fitz groaned quietly and dropped his head down against his keyboard. Jemma had mentioned once again on how he seemed to have a crush on Skye which wasn't true. He didn't have a crush on her. He had a total and complete understanding on what she was going through. Plus they both viewed Coulson as a father figure. One they couldn't lose like they almost had.
He let the computer beep at him for a second or two before he lifted his head and glanced back at Jemma who frowned and tried to hide her jealousy. Did she really think that after spending nearly the past decade with her that he couldn't read her?
Did she really think that he'd have this 'Crush' on Skye because he didn't have one on Skye? He rolled his eyes and wanted to laugh. He wanted to reach out and shake Jemma for being so stupid. Did she think he accepted the job because he wanted to spend however long stuck on a much smaller flying lab that the hellicarrier?
Not that he liked the hellicarrier to begin with but it was less scary than the jet plane that could lose power and kill them all in a fiery crash. Much like it almost did with the ghost man. He shook his head finally and chuckled under his breath. How stupid could his best friend be.
He's had the 'hots' as Skye likes to say when she pops down after Jemma decides she needs to get a cup of tea from upstairs because they can't keep their own down in the lab… A terrible accident that had ended up with Coulson banning all drinks except for water and that was very limited on that in the lab. But Skye would show up and causally chat with Fitz long enough for Jemma to come down and they could both read her jealousy all over her face.
Catching Jemma attention she glanced up at him and blinked. "What?"
"You." He mutters quietly not expecting her to hear as he turns away and runs a hand through his curls. He's frustrated with the fact he works for a top secret government agency but yet he can't talk to the he'd follow anywhere. He thought he proved that there was no crush when he practically compromised himself when Jemma was infected.
She saw him screaming her name on the other side of the glass right before she fell. How could she not know his feelings for her?
"What about me?"
"Nothing… I'm just talking to myself." He mutters with a shrug.
"Come on. What is it? Can I help?"
Fitz wants to say yes but he doesn't he only shakes his head. "No… I think I'm just going to go grab a snack from upstairs."
"Oh… Okay…" Jemma says quietly watching him back away from his station. He'd been modifying the dwarves again but he seemed kinda of out of it. Specially after Skye had came down earlier.
"Well?"
"No." He finally sighed rubbing his eyes. It sucked being this close to telling her his feelings but it didn't happen he finally gave up. He couldn't keep this up he had a job and a best friend who was there twenty four seven for him. He shouldn't ruin that by compromising the whole thing.
He knew this well before he even stepped foot into the plane. Well before they even worked so closely. He knew that he would never get the gratification of calling Jemma Simmon's his because she was a woman of science and science was what she was dedicated to. She didn't have time for all that silly relationship stuff. She said so on the first day they met.
Fitz had only agreed because he thought maybe, just maybe she'd change her mind. But she never would. He knew she never would. She was the woman of science.
