Why Kyouya wears glasses.
-an ouran high school host club fanfic. Standard disclaimers apply
He didn't have to. He could've worn contacts, if he wanted-or even needed it (despite popular opinion...he actually had perfect vision). In fact, he looked so much better without it, that if he only chose to remove them, his popularity might even rival that of Tamaki. But he didn't. He chose to keep wearing them.
He didn't need to validate his existence through a popularity contest. Frankly, he could care less. It wasn't even to feel like a nerd. He was secure in his own sharp intellect.
Oh no. As always, he chose to wear it, due to its merits.
He rather enjoyed the free time it gave him to manage the club's finances, activities and administration work, which he would be otherwise unable to do if he was out there with them "hosting." Not to mention that there were always misconceptions such as people who wore glasses were weak, for example.
Or to look more capable, dependable, when dealing with people in position.
It was infinitely more practical for people-especially your enemies-to underestimate you, than know your true skill.
Depending on how he used them, it could intimidate, repulse, or show people his disinterest.
He could also observe people without being noticed.
It was a very useful tool, indeed.
And lately, he'd been observing someone in particular just a little bit more closely.
He saw her compliment one of her clients, giving them an encouraging smile.
She was artlessly graceful, even in her words, at times, and yet her words could also be thoughtlessly, unintentionally cruel. It was one of the things that made her so much more interesting to him.
She turned to look at him, for some reason, only to see his glasses glinting against the sunlight. She supposed he was probably updating the club's expenditures' spreadsheet, and was just looking in the general direction. The laptop, after all, was open, right in front of him.
He read the look on her face accurately, and smiled to himself. Since everyone else had clients and happened to be busy, he could safely open his secret folder, and look at the new additions to his pictures of her.
Enjoying his free time, he couldn't help but think, with a satisfied smirk, how convenient his life became, just by wearing glasses.
The hosts tried to suppress the shiver that ran down their spines at the sight of Kyouya's mercenary smile, as he stared at the screen of his pinepple laptop.
Yes. The uses of the Low Blood Pressure Evil Lord's "glasses of evil" were indeed powerful and limitless.
