Scorn
The moon weaved silver threads together to cast down upon the Earth. For her children that were awake, they would see her in all her milky beauty, hanging so serenely in the night sky. Around her were small white pin pricks of the farthest stars, each piercing the black canvas of the night sky.
It was truly a beautiful night, and many of the people were asleep and therefore unable to witness it. But one trouble youkai with the markings of a noble sat agitated under this beautiful night as he gazed.
At what he gazed was a small human female that slept directly across the campfire from him. The orange flames make her deep raven hair glint marvelously, making it blue for a small second before returning to its raven.
The young lord watched her body move with each breathe it took. He watched how her hands curled around the kit a little more securely when he moved. He watched how her face contorted with her dreams. He watched.
For the many weeks that he had lowered himself to travel with the hanyou's group, he found that on many nights, such as this one, would leave him staring at this wench for a reason he could not fathom.
Sesshomaru's lips curled into a small scornful smirk as he thought of how his dearly departed (or not so dearly departed) mother would scream and wail and throw a tantrum until she was blue in the face If she knew his thoughts.
From almost immediately after his birth, when his father left his mother for a human, the only advice his mother would offer him was, "Sesshomaru humans are not to be trusted, they are meant to serve the youkai, they are not meant to be loved. Lords, my son, are not meant to love. You mark my words pup, your father will be killed because of that female, and he will die with shame. Promise me Sesshomaru, that you never ever fall in love. Especially with a human."
A little chuckle escaped a Sesshomaru as he remembered the words along with his childhood. As a pup he had always repeated that promise to his mother, even when she was on her deathbed, those had been her final words to him. Not that she hoped he prospered, just to never fall in love.
He did not know what his future had in store for him, but he was sure that it involved this little miko, and though the thought should have disturbed him, he found himself looking forward to it. Silently he said a prayer of apology to his mother. He may not have been in love with the little miko yet, but he was sure, that too, would be a part of his future that he could not escape.
And with that thought firmly in mind, the youkai moved to her side of the fire, crossing an unseen boundary and reached out to smooth his hand down her hair. A smile played across his lips. Yes, this little miko would be making his mother ravage hell across the afterlife for many years to come. He could feel it, and silently, he sent another prayer of apology, this time to all of those who had the ill fortune of being in the lady Aina's presence when she found out.
The thought made him laugh aloud disturbing Kagome for the briefest moments, before she settled down, a small smile playing across her face as her lord bed down beside her.
