• A MUTUAL FEAR •
Dean flung open the door and stumbled towards the motel bed, collapsing onto the lumpy mattress with a pained groan. Sam followed, looking significantly less worse-for-wear, despite his tattered clothes.
Closing the door behind him and dropping the heavy duffel onto the dingy carpet, he emptied the shopping bag from the local gas station beside his motionless brother. Bandages, peroxide, gauze, extra strength Advil, muscle rub, and a bag of ice lay strewn across the bed.
"You're an idiot, Dean."
Sam removed the shredded garments from his brother's still form, then used a knife to slice open the ruined T-shirt. Dean whimpered, his complaining muffled by the disturbed linen.
"I bet you thought it was pretty badass going into that house by yourself."
Dean mumbled again.
"In what way, is it smart, walking into some rabid werewolf's den? Alone."
"It was supposed to be an in and out job," Dean snapped defensively. "Everything was going great 'til the third one showed up."
Sam cleaned the scratches on his brother's back, anger making his touch rough.
"Yeah, well, it was freakin' lame."
Dean groaned again, grabbing at the sheets.
"I'm getting sick and tired of this heroic kamikaze crap you've been pulling."
Sam hastily bandaged his brother's wounds, then grabbed the IcyHot and disappeared into the bathroom with a slam of the door, leaving the injured Winchester to clean up the mess on his own.
"I'm sorry, Sammy," Dean admitted to the empty room. Sometimes it was hard to remember that he wasn't the only one afraid of the coming days.
