It was around 3 in the morning. Roy Mustang walked down the halls of the palace, heading towards his room. He had spent the better part of the night out among the rolling hills of sand, searching with Edward for Alphonse. Ed had been absolutely frantic, and seemed oblivious to fatigue or anything else. They had finally turned back, but only because of Roy's stubbornness to let Ed continue.

They had both been weary, and Ed was sure to go crazy if this kept up. Right now, they both needed a good sleep.

Opening the wooden door to his chambers, he was surprised to find several candles lit, a figure slumped up in the chair, an open book resting on the arm. Still, it made Roy smile.

"Riza." He said softly, affectionately. The blonde didn't even stir.

He leaned over her sleeping form and blew out the candles. Smoke curled into the air, and Roy waved it away with his hand. Slowly, Roy took off Riza's glasses, folded them, and set them on the table next to the armchair.

Gently, carefully, the black-haired man picked up the fair-haired woman, smiling as she nuzzled him in her sleep instinctively. He carried her over to their bed, placing her under the covers, stripping himself of most of his clothes before joining her. Wrapping one arm around her waist, Roy brought her close to his body, taking in the sweet smell of her blond locks.

"Mmm, Roy." Riza mumbled, only half awake. Her eyes opened halfway, turning around to wrap her arms around his neck. "You're late."

He smiled again. "Sorry. But I'm here now."

Riza nodded sleepily, drifting off even as she spoke. "Love you."

"I love you too." Came the reply.
