Hundreds of maroon hats flew into the air as the 2009 graduating class of Clearwater East celebrated. Somewhere amongst the cheering students, three girls hugged each other before running off to their respective families to celebrate.
"Scarlett, over here!" A lady with bright red hair wearing khaki pants and an olive green top called out. Scarlet turned her head to the left, locationg her parents and sister. She ran towards them, hugging her dad first.
"We're so proud of you, Scarlett." He said.
"Mom! Dad!" A girl with blonde hair yelled, trying to locate her family. Suddently someone picked her up from behind and she screamed. "Parker, put me down!"
He obliged and she punched his arm in return. "Do you see what he does to me?" Skye complained to her parents, stomping her foot.
"Yeah mom, do you see what she does to me." He said mocking his younger sister's body language. "I had to sit through that awful speech and OW!" He said, once again getting punched.
"That's enough you two. This is your sister's big day," Kim Johnson said, ever- mothering her already grown up children.
"You're on your way, Kendall." Ruby Bryant said, congratulating her neice.
"Your hair is a mess." He uncle Tom said through a smile as he waved to a constituent and tried to keep up the family image he had worked so hard to perfect.
Kendall tucked her hair behind her ears, smoothing it as she went. "Your parents would have been really proud of you." He offered, in a much softer voice, placing his hand on her shoulder.
"We're proud of you too." His wife added.
Kendall's adoptive parents, Tom and Ruby Bryant were the first family of Clearwater and very concerned with always acting in a proper manner. "So we'll see you after the graduation party at...what's that girl's name again?" Ruby asked condescendingly.
"Her name is Skye." Kendall replied, turning and walking back towards where she had left her friends.
"So, Ally, I assumer you're going with me to Skye's party...Parker will be there." Scarlett teased her older sister, raising her eyebrows suggestively. "Plus I kinda need the ride."
"Actually Scarlett," Her mother started, leading them away from the reception area that had been set off on the front lawn of the school over to where they could see the street. "Drive yourself." She said, holding out a set of keys and pointing towards a dark green jeep commonder.
Kendall looked over to see a squealing Scarlett who was jumping around and hugging her parents. "That should have been me." She said bitterly, then turned towards the school, hoping to find Skye and get out of there as soon as she could.
