A/N: It's cliché. But I'm working on a longish drama piece and needed some humour. Besides, this thingy practically wrote itself.

Tom winced as he heard his captain's screams from behind the closed doors and when another – obviously painful – yelp escaped exchanged a sympathetic glance with B'Elanna. He just prayed it would be over soon, because he didn't know how much longer their first officer could take this torture. Finally the screams stopped, only to be replaced by an almost inhuman howling that assaulted his ears. The doors to sickbay whooshed open and Tom and B'Elanna walked in carefully, looking around them as if they expected something to come leap at them any moment. The Doctor fit that description well as he hurried over to them, looking awfully cheerful and smug. But he merely led them over to the biobed where their captain lay. The bundle in her arms was just settling down. Chakotay stood next to them, flexing a painful hand, but looking immensely proud as he hovered over the scene on the biobed.

'Tom, B'Elanna,' Kathryn said as she called them over, a serene smile on her face, 'let me introduce you to our newest crewmember: Katie Taya Janeway.' She showed them the origin of the earlier howling as she extended the bundle she was holding towards them.

They hurried forward to take a peek at the new baby.

'She's beautiful, Captain,' Tom said as he gazed in awe at the small creature, who promptly began to wail again.
