There is something about picking up an instrument. A feeling that comes over you like a wave. It is through this feeling that you know whether or not it is for you. My flute was made for me, of that I am sure. In my hands, resting against my lips, that is where it belongs. For me it sounds in ways that no other can produce.
And when a note is played, in that note is my very soul as it stands in that small moment of time. My emotions, my thoughts, everything that is me can be heard if only one knows how to listen. There lies the reason why I play. My soul lies behind walls so thick very few ever see it, yet it yearns to show itself. It is in my music, through the gentle tones of a flute, that my soul bares itself for all to see.
Playing with others is an experience beyond any other, music created by more than one person is an intertwining of spirits. They too speak my language of subtleties. Within the music unique souls mix and complement each other, pairings and connections are made.
When one with whom I am so connected listens to the music I make, then my soul soars. That persons very life energy is added onto my own, and as one we become larger than life itself.
This is what my music is to me.
And this is what I share with you.
