Chapter One: Frost
VAMPIRE FACT:
A vampire cannot enter another home without first being invited inside.
It's another cold night, but I don't really mind. In fact, my window is cracked open, encouraging the freezing winter air to drift in. It's late and I can't stop myself from stealing anxious glances at the window.
He's going come again. He always does.
As soon as the sun goes down – he'll find me here. Then he'll tap at my window, peaking through the frosted glass with unnatural cobalt eyes. He'll brush his golden hair from his pale face and take his rightful place on the sill; lithe body pressed close against the glass, but he'll never come inside.
Because he can't come inside.
Not until I invite him in. But he's persistent on keeping me prisoner here. He'll beg and plead; yearning for the day I'll –
"Matt,"
- untie him from his chains, allowing him to touch me, feel me, and kiss me; to love me.
I turn toward the window slowly, and I see him there. Hand's pressed against the glass, melting away the ice before those hands seep through the opening in my window; prying it open in a single fluent swipe. His hand is reaching for me.
"Let me in." His voice is soft today.
I stare at his outstretched hand, neither of us moving. The wind rakes through Mello's rich treads, and I know that he's trying his hardest to be patient. It's been a couple of weeks since I've spoken to him. I wonder if he's as anxious as I am. But then again, his being is so deathly calm, that I refuse the theory completely. He's way too perfect for something as human as apprehension.
With closed eyes and an erratic heartbeat, I slip my hand into his. What I say is hardly a whisper, but he hears it.
"Please, come inside."
