THE FAMILY THAT I'VE ALWAYS HAD

Episode 12 (S1) Seeds. During the scene at the end when Skye is at the Wall of Valor and Ward is watching her.

-SKYE-

I stood at the wall, placing the tips of my fingers over Avery's name.

My entire life I had believed I was never wanted. That no one could ever love me.

And now, I know the truth: that a team of agents, an entire village, died for me. People cared so much about me that they died for me. I don't deserve it. I still don't deserve it, even now.

My life had always been with S.H.I.E.L.D. I knew that now. That they'd always been there for me, protecting me. They've always been my family, and they always will be.

I felt the tears threatening to spill over my eyes.

I had found where I belonged.

I had found my home.

-WARD-

I stood to the side, watching Skye.

Coulson had told her something important, the team knew that. But we also knew not to pry. Whatever he had told her, they wanted kept secret.

He'd always thought she wore her heart on her sleeve, always optimistic. Now, he saw how guarded she'd always been.

But as the tears streaked her cheeks, she looked, for once at peace.

I moved closer, standing beside her.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"My entire life, I've thought that I was useless. That I was dropped off at an orphanage because whoever my parents were knew I would be a disappointment."

"You could never be useless," I replied, placing my hand on her back. The warmth I felt from this simple touch was more than id ever felt in all my times with May.

"People died for me, Ward," she turned to look at me, her doe eyes glistening, "I don't know why yet, but I will find out. My story, my search doesn't end here. It's only just beginning."
