The new world lay ahead of me as untarnished and clean as a blanket of new fallen snow. No one had ever set foot on the soil since the dawn of the Great Wave, accept the animals of the forest. I knew this, and Renn knew this. The land ahead of us was ours. There was no one alive to deny us that. We had earned it.
It had been one whole spring since Renn and I had left the Raven clan. Renn always suggested we go back to visit but I always made some excuse to not to. I know I should have told her, but I didn't. I wanted to see Fin-Kidenn as much as she did but I didn't want to tell her the truth of why I hesitated. I was afraid that she would miss her old way of life and want to stay. And if she asked that, I would never think of denying her .
Renn grabed my hand, and I was brought back to reality. I looked at her, and she looked at me. She smiled gratefully, and I thought, "How could I possibly think she would rather be back in Raven clan than here with me and the wolves?"
"Come on," she said quietly but although she tried to conceal it, I could see she was jumping with excitement inside. She gripped my hand tighter and together, we hiked down into our new found world as Wolf, Darkfur, and Pebble trailed behind us.
