Pongo rejects the suggestion because our puppies are finally home. Yes, the weather is warming up and our puppies are old enough for the leash. Everything is still dangerous, though. Someone could break free from their leash and be hit by a car. A child could be too rough.
Anita and Nanny click their tongues as they sweep up the scattered kibble. Roger whistles and herds the puppies outside before another accident.
"Our humans are adjusting, Pongo," she murmurs. "Our puppies cannot be protected from everything and we shouldn't teach them to be frightened of the world."
"I'm frightened, though."
