Marie accepted her place in the corner. Curled up against the wall, crying a fetal position. Hope was unatainable and she suffered all alone. The salty tears ran down her skinny arms, running off and pooling onto the floor. Regardless of the situation, the single most prominent constant was the dark cloud that hovered above her. This was a position she knew very well, from her immature tantrums as a young child to the anxious breakdowns she faced as a young adult, this was the one thing she always came back to. It was the 20th of October, well over a week after her 16th birthday, and yet, she still found herself in the same old mess. Just as the last glimmers of faith left within her began to depart, a saving grace appeared as a knock at the door. The knob was twisted about for a moment, but finally gave in. "Marie, are you there?"

Edd took a few careful steps towards the girl. His presence was certainly warm, and Marie felt immediately guilty for her perceived coldness. Peeling her gloomy face from her soggy, folded arms, she looked up at the boy who was approaching her. At this momment, she felt low, so far below anyone else in the universe. "Marie," Edd started, giving off a welcoming smile and offering her his hand, "I'm here with you now." Marie wiped away her pointless tears, composing herself as much as she could. The depression that ate at her from within was still obvious in her face, but she was no longer the crying mess she appeared as just momments ago. She accepted his olive branch, allowing him to pull her up. They stood in silence, facing each other from mere inches away. The two teenagers embraced. "Everything's okay, Marie." Edd closed his eyes as he assured the broken girl.

Crossing the unkempt living area of the trailer, Edd and Marie stepped over clothes and garbage as they sauntered their way out the door, hand in hand. They walked into the frigid air of a wintry evening, wandering out of the trailer park as they braved the strong wind. Stars graced a dark sky, and crickets provided a pleasant ambiance in addition to the drone of the wind. Marie was severely under-dressed, only covered by evening wear and a flimsy pair of slippers. Her shoulder-length blue hair danced around in the wind, and her skin was freezing to the touch. None of this physical shit mattered at this moment. Their hands locked tight around each other, it was all about the connection. Resting her head on Edd's shoulder, she looked into the eyes of her man. His tacky, wrinkled dress clothes and awkward, gap-toothed smile did nothing but reassure her. Aesthetics and comfort are truly different. Stopping under a broken, flickering street light, the two embraced again and kissed underneath the crescent moon of honey and light. Marie finally found her place in serenity. At this moment, everything was okay.
