Souls Intertwined
Chapter 1- Rude Awakenings
AN: Hey all, I got this idea from WeissColdGlare's soul bond au on tumblr, which you guys need to check out. I am not going to stay to the exact au that has been created, this will be my take on it, there might be some similarities to begin with but I am not trying to take credit for the soul bond idea I'm just playing with it. Also I know there is another story with the same premise on Ao3 by MamaKatie which again you should check out, I am not trying to copy her story. I am going to be taking this story in a different direction.
Something was wrong, bolting straight Weiss could hear her own labored breathing as a wave of panic and confusion crashed over her. Did she have a nightmare? Was she dying? It felt like she was dying. Her heart was trying its hardest to beat out of her chest while her lungs seemed to be struggling to pull in air. Swinging her legs over the side of the bed she leaned her head down to her legs attempting to control her breathing before she hyperventilated. Placing her hands on her head she felt oddly soft hair, soft almost like fur. At that she felt her ears twitch under her hands, jolting back up she stares at her hands blankly. These weren't her hands. The skin was more tan, her fingers longer, nails painted the dark purple Blake likes using. Maybe she was dreaming.
'This can't be real. This can't be real.'
Blake's voice reverberated from seemingly everywhere, laced with unrestrained panic. The words sent Weiss flipping around towards Blake's bed coming face to face with the wall. Turning her head she realizes she was in Blake's bed, with the owner nowhere to be found. The realization sending her heart racing more, she had gone to sleep in her bed in Atlas. So this had to be a dream, she was still asleep in her bed in Atlas. But the racing of her heart and her labored breathing felt all too real, she had never had a dream this vividly real before. There was a first time for everything right? Who was she kidding, she never lied to herself no point starting now. She was wide awake. Desperately she hoped that the implications of waking up in Blake's bed and her painted purple nails didn't mean what she thought it did, it was just to impossible to be real.
'This can't be real.'
Again her teammates voice rang through her head along with the growing icy pit in her stomach.
"Blake?" Weiss said breathlessly, sucking in a breath as she hears the lower tone of Blake's voice. The clues stacking up to build one impossible theory.
'This can't be real.'
Rapidly turning around Weiss takes in her bed sitting under the precariously held aloft bunk of her team leader, both empty.
"Blake?" Again, not Weiss's voice comes breathlessly out of her mouth, the icy pit in her stomach getting heavier.
She needs to find Blake, if she finds her then this theory couldn't be real.
'This can't be real.'
Scrambling out of Blake's bed she stumbles catching herself on her own bed, her legs longer than she was use too. That's not a good sign. Getting up carefully she stumbled toward the bathroom.
'This can't be real.'
The door burst open squealing on its hinges then making a cacophonous sound as it slammed against the wall, prompted Weiss to bring her hands up to cover her ringing ears and squeezing her eyes shut at the instant headache. That was louder than it should have been.
'This can't be real.'
"Blake?" Weiss again called, opening her eyes to check if Blake was in here. Empty. Turning to her left Weiss found Blake, in the mirror with her hands clamped over her head, chest heaving and ice blue eyes. Stepping closer to the mirror Weiss found Blake copying her movement, she dropped her hands revealing the black feline ears that were currently trying to blend in with her long black hair. Sometimes she hated being right.
"Blake?" Weiss whispered watching as the Blake in the mirror opened her mouth and formed the word, hearing the same breathless tone to Blake's voice come out of her mouth.
'Oh god, this is real. Weiss, what happened?'
"Blake, I don't know." Weiss said softly, knuckles turning white as she gripped the counter, starting at her own blue eyes coming from the reflection.
A slew of emotions from two sources ran through her, panic, confusion, worry, concern, all jumbled together. A lump formed in her throat.
Grip tightening, Weiss breaks eye contact with her reflection and breathes in deeply and slowly, fighting against the pressure building behind her eyes.
How could this happen? She had gone to Atlas for the break, had a frosty dinner with her father and brother upon her arrival then went to bed early. The next then she knows she's waking up in a blind panic in Blake's body, maybe it was something Blake did?
'I had nothing to do with this! Why would I want to do this to myself?'
"Stop listening to my thoughts!" Weiss snapped out at the indignant voice of her teammate shooting through her head.
'Like I have a choice.' Came Blake's sarcastic response along with a very strong feeling of exasperation.
Ignoring her teammates response, Weiss looks back up at her reflection, her blue eyes looking sorely out of place on Blake's face. Seeing movement in the mirror her eyes move up toward the feline ears that were more perked up than they were previously.
"So you don't know how this happened?" She asked, concentration on moving the ears, she watched them twist about while feeling the movement atop her head. She never got a chance to see Blake's ears after their fight and didn't want to scare Blake off again by asking to see them. They're cute.
'Um, thanks I guess?'
Embarrassment flooded through her along with the blush rising up her refections features, her ears flattening. Despite her embarrassment it was interesting to see Blake's features actually flustered, she has a much better poker face than Weiss does.
'Moving on, no I don't know what happened. I just woke up and couldn't move. I panicked, I think that's what woke you up. Sorry.'
"Don't apologize!" Weiss snapped, not liking the guilt that shot through her from Blake. "Any normal person would wake up in a panic in this situation."
Weiss didn't here any thoughts from Blake at that, but the guilty feeling did subside with the growing feeling of sheepishness.
"Okay, lets go over this." Weiss said standing up straight, "I was in Atlas last night, had dinner with my Father and went to bed, nothing out of the normal that could have caused this...situation." Not that it's normal for your Father to treat you like your not there.
'Weiss, I'm—'
Feeling Blake's sorrow rush through her, Weiss holds up her hand, interrupting the incoming apology.
"Ah ah! No, we are not going to talk about that."
She didn't ever want to talk about that.
'Okay. I understand.'
"Good. Now tell me what you did last night." Weiss said, turning around to lean on the counter.
Images of Yang pulling Ruby out the door surfaced in Weiss's mind.
'Well Yang took Ruby out to dinner and then the new movie she wanted to see so they got home really late last night.'
The memories shifted, she was in bed with Ninja's of Love, 'I just spent the time reading.' Heat flooded through her body, the book was getting to the good part, she dragged her hand off her book and down her stomach toward—
"Oh my god! Stop! I didn't need to know that!" Weiss screeched, covering her eyes as if that would help get rid of the images. A wave of embarrassment and slight arousal washed over her.
'I'm sorry! I didn't mean too!'
She felt mortification radiating from Blake.
'This whole sharing thoughts thing is uncomfortable.'
"Yes it is." Weiss whispered under her breath, leaving the bathroom and heading toward her bed. "So it seems like both of us had a normal night last night, so what could have possible caused this." She sat down on her bed and put her head in her hands. This was a nightmare, her and Blake just barely started getting along again, this situation couldn't have happened with a worse combination.
'I don't know about that, imagine if you woke up as Professor Port.'
Horror shot through her at the thought, causing her head to shoot up.
"No!" Weiss shouted, shuddering as the image of her professor with her blue eyes came to mind. "I'd rather not!"
A wave of warmth rushed through her, she couldn't hear it but she could feel Blake laughing at her.
Her ears flicking back in irritation, "Alright, I get your point. It could be worse."
Sighing, Weiss looks around the room again noticing that it was empty. "Did Ruby and Yang ever come back last night?" She asked.
'Yeah, they must have got up early.'
"What are we going to do about this Blake?" Weiss asked softly, looking down at her hands, watching her purple painted nails disappear and reappear as she clenches and releases them. They weren't her hands.
'I don't know, Weiss. I really don't know.'
The lump had reformed in her throat, this time she felt the tears slip down her cheeks before she could stop them. The mixture of confusion, frustration, worry and sorrow too much for her.
'Weiss—'
The door slammed open, interrupting Blake, as well as sending Weiss's ears ringing. How did Blake deal with all these loud noises?
"Blake! Time to wake uuuuppp!" Yang cheerfully called out, "Ruby came up with a game plan for today, we are going..to...Blake, are you crying?" Sniffing loudly Weiss looked up as Yang was talking, she watched as Yang moved forward and knelt in front of her bringing them eye to eye.
"Blake, what's wrong?" Yang asked slowly bringing a hand up to wipe the tears off her cheek, Yangs hand freezing as her lavender eyes lock with Weiss's blue.
"Your eyes," Yang started, finally moving her hand to rest on Weiss's cheek, "they look like Weiss's eyes."
'Yang.' The name whispered through her head with such longing and love it made her heart ache. Blake was in love with Yang? Panic. Concern. Pleading. Yang didn't know, Blake didn't want Yang to know, Blake didn't want anyone to know. She wouldn't tell Yang, they will talk about this later. 'Thank you.'
"You probably won't believe me," Weiss started knocking Yangs hand from her face, "but I am Weiss."
Yang having sat back on, took a long look at Weiss, from her ramrod straight posture, her primly crossed hands on her lap, to her piercing blue gaze.
"I think I believe you, Blake's not that good of an actor." Yang said.
"What happened to you?" Yang started, leaning back up and grabbing her shoulders, "Where's Blake?" The last question came out strained with worry.
Startled at the suddenly close proximity to the blonde she jolted backward, the only thing keeping her from tipping backward being Yangs hands on her shoulders.
"Calm down, she's still here with me." Weiss said, grabbing the blondes wrists and pulling her hands off her shoulders. This was accomplished Easter than she expect, Blake's body was stronger than hers. "I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't manhandle me."
'She can manhandle me whenever she wants.'
"Blake!" Weiss scolded, causing Yang to give her a curious look, she ignored this as well as the inappropriate feelings she was getting from Blake.
'Sorry! I can't help that you hear everything I think.'
"She's there like in your head?" Yang questioned, "and you can hear her?"
"Yes Yang, I can hear her." Weiss said, squeezing her eyes shut and pinching the bridge of her nose.
'Tell her I'm okay, she looked worried.'
She opened her eyes, seeing that Yang was back to sitting on her heels in front of her. The blonde had furrowed her brows and was gnawing on her bottom lip.
"She said to tell you she's fine." Weiss told the blonde, Yangs face smoothing out at the words.
"Okay, right," Yang said climbing to her feet, "that's good. That's great!" By now she was pacing the room. "But that still doesn't explain what happened to you two!" Yang exclaimed, throwing her hands up in the air.
'Calm her down, her panicking is not going to end well.'
Blake's worry for Yang as well as her own concern about her teammates eyes shifting towards the red spectrum got her moving.
Before she could even get off the bed, the dorm room door crashed open. Her ears folded back at the loud noise, a jolt a pain shot through her head. How does Blake deal with this?
'Very patiently.' Came Blake's deadpan answer.
"Your not helping." She hissed through her teeth.
"Who's not helping?" Ruby said, closing the door looking over at her sister "What happened to who two Yang?" Taking a good look at Yang she asked more cautiously, "Yang, why are your eyes red?"
Looking over toward Weiss, Ruby takes in her hunched over position on the bed, hands clamped to her ears and sending a glare Ruby's way. "Why is Weiss glaring at me?"
Turning to look back towards her sister, Weiss watches as Ruby froze and did a comical double take. "Why does Weiss look like Blake?!" A flash of red petals and Ruby was in her face. "Did you and Blake switch bodies?"
"Back off you dolt!" Weiss screeched, pushes Ruby's face away, causing her to topple backwards into the floor.
"Oomph," laying flat on her back she looks over toward her sister and said, "That was less scary sounding with Blake's voice."
At that Yangs eyes fade to lilac, doubling over as she burst into laughter. "Oh my god, Rubes! Did you see the look on her face! I've never seen Blake look so startled!" Turning toward Weiss she continues with, "Weiss your making Blake so expressive!"
Amusement at the scene flooded through her from Blake, tempering her own irritation at the situation.
"Hrmp," crossing her arms she turns away from the sisters. Ignoring their teasing, "No Ruby we didn't switch bodies. It seems we are sharing Blake's body."
'How did she even know it was you?'
That was a good question. Turning back to Ruby, she watched as Yang helped her sister back up.
"Blake wants to know how you knew it was me." She stated, uncrossing her arms.
"Uh, your eyes," Ruby started, spreading her hands apart, "they're very Weiss." Kicking the floor with the toe of her boot, saying under her breath, "and you were glaring at me. Blake doesn't glare at me."
Guilt creep through her at that. She didn't mean to be mean to her partner. She really should start working on that nicer thing she promised.
'That's probably a good idea.'
"Shut it, Blake."
"Oh!" Ruby said, leaning forward with her hands brought together in front of her face, "you said your sharing bodies with Blake! Can you hear her? What did she just say?!"
Clamping a hand on her younger sisters shoulder, Yang says, "Yeah, Weiss said she could hear her and that Blake is okay."
"That's sooo coooool!" Ruby exclaimed.
"No, it's not!" Weiss exclaimed. Nothing about this situation was cool, it was distressing and invasive to both hers and Blake's privacy.
'Agreed.'
"Yeah, I gotta agree with Weiss on this one little sister." Yang replied, turning to look at Weiss with a concerned expression, "We don't know how this happened or how we can fix this, doesn't seem very cool to me."
"Well," Ruby said, poking her fingers together, "we can go to Professor Ozpin, he might know something."
A barely lit room, she was sitting at a metal table, Ozpin is seated across from her.
"Very well. Thank you for your time Ms. Belladonna." Ozpin stands heading for the door, pausing he turns back to her. "If you ever need to talk to me. Please don't hesitate to ask."
The flash of memory fades with Blake's voice, 'I'd rather not go to Ozpin.'
"What? Why not?" Weiss asked furrowing her brows and crossing her arms. "He seemed like he'd be willing to help."
'I just don't trust him.' The words were accompanied by a feeling of unease.
"Did Blake say something Weiss?" Yangs voice caused her to look at the sisters, Yang looking at her with an inquisitive expression while Ruby was bouncing looking ready to burst out laughing. This made Weiss realize that yes she did look like a crazy person talking to herself.
'Heh, it does.'
She should probably stop talking out loud to Blake since she could hear her thoughts anyway.
'Yeah, probably a good idea.'
This was going to be exhausting with the constant commentary. Blake was laughing at her again.
Standing up, "Blake doesn't want to go to Ozpin," walking past the sibling towards the door, "but I think it's a great idea! Let's go."
'Weiss, wait.'
Weiss ignored her, they were going to see Ozpin whether Blake liked it or not.
"Uh, Weiss?" Ruby said hesitating.
Turning her head, hand on the doorknob, "What?" She snapped.
"Um, are you going to change?" Ruby asked pointing up and down Weiss's form.
"Yeah, I don't think Blake would appreciate you walking around in her pajamas." Yang said, she added with a suggestive look, "bet all the boys and some ladies would though."
A thrill of heat shot through her.
'Does that include you?'
Gasping, she clasped a hand over her heart as it skipped a beat. This was going to be the death of her.
'Sorry. Can you also put my bow on before you march out the door?
Right. Cat ears. Blake doesn't want people to know.
"I'm going to get changed," she announces turning away from the door she marches past her teammate, "then we are going to Professor Ozpin."
'Great'
Weiss could feel the sarcasm.
AN: Hope you all enjoyed, let me know. I'll try to get the next chapter out in the next week or so.
