Sorceress Misao
A fanfiction based on the characters of Nobuhiro Watsuki's "Rurouni Kenshin."
Inspired by s-girl's "Sleeping Beauty" (see link in profile)
In a castle a young sorceress named Misao intensely watched over a handsome man named Aoshi. Nothing seemed amiss as he sat against the chair with his eyes closed a peaceful look about him. Misao's blue eyes, as turbulent as her feelings studied his features: the dark hair, his narrow nose and she thought of his blue eyes hidden behinds his eyelids. All she had to do was to remove the only obstacle in her way of her never ending happiness. Said obstacle came in the form of a woman warrior named Megumi who possessed intelligence as sharp as the sword she wielded and a myseterious power to control Aoshi's affection and attention.
"She can't have you," she said to him, "because it wouldn't be fair." Her only response was his continous steady breaths. No one would have suspected anything wrong with him, but her selfishness to keep him by her side, to be the only to give him affection led her to put a spell over him causing him to sleep and never leave her side. Misao smiled as she thought of their future and told him, "Time to greet our visitor."
Illuminating the damp, cold walls of the castle was a torch that had almost burned out. The flicker of its light revealed the woman leaning against the walls of the dim corridor. Slightly out of breath Megumi tried to calm the beating of her heart and hoped she had lost the sorceress Misao. Megumi looked carefully behind her and thought she had seen something but was not sure. After a moment she decided it had been her imagination and continued on.
Megumi moved forward and soon found herself in front of a door. This was it. She stepped towards it with trepidation. After opening so many doors before to find nothing she was afraid of him not being in the castle at all. Misao was an excellent sorceress, Megumi thought as she recalled when she first set off to find Aoshi. She had been deceived once by the devious sorceress who led her to believe she was close to finding Aoshi and discovered nothing except her own frustration.
"This is it," Megumi told herself and took a step forward, grasped the handle with her right hand and leaned the left against the wall, to hold herself steady. She bowed her head and took a deep breath. With a steady hand she pushed the door open.
There he was. Aoshi sat against a chair with his eyes closed a peaceful look about him. The surreal lighting of the room illuminated his features. Megumi let out a breath she had been holding and ran towards him, a smile on her face.
"Aoshi," she called out. He did not respond. When she reached him Megumi cupped his face with her right hand and tried again, "Aoshi," she repeated a little louder. Megumi stood there taking it all in. Her head turned slowly from one side of the room to the other thinking of what to do when she saw Misao smiling at her with a dark glint in her eyes and a malicious smile on her face.
