Unwilling Decoy
Mike Stone was cursing the day that Rudy Olsen had authority over him. The only worse thing he could think of was if his young partner was there to see him now. He could just hear the remarks that Steve might have to make concerning Mike's appearance.
There had been several purse snatchings and muggings in fashionable Nob Hill and Mike was recruited by Rudy Olsen to be one of the decoys as most of the victims were of the age group that Mike belonged to.
When the ones recruited left to go take their places around the neighborhoods of Nob Hill Steve still had not come into work and Mike thought thankfully he had got off lucky as he would not have to face the ribbing that Steve sometimes could dish out. He seemed to have forgotten that he too could sometimes dish out some pretty vicious ribbing himself.
Later while on that detail, to Mike's dismay the mugger seemed to single him out for the attempted crime. Little did the culprit know but he had just picked on the wrong woman as the woman gave chase to try to take down the culprit.
Just then to Mike's chagin, who happened to drive by and stop to attempt to help catch the culprit that was running from Mike Stone, none other than Steve Keller.
Mike had just tackled the culprit when Steve rushed up. As the other officers were cuffing the culprit Steve extended his hand to help the woman up from where she lay sprawled out.
"Get away from me hotshot! I can still get up on my own even if I do have a few years on you." Mike spoke brusquely.
Steve was shocked at the sound of the familiar voice and was looking Mike up and down as his jaw dropped in surprise.
"Mike? What in the world..." Steve asked confused and struggling to staunch the laugh that was coming.
"Close your mouth or you'll catch a fly." Mike snapped irritably as he stalked off toward the car. "And don't forget to grab my hat!"
