Yes, it's late, I know, considering how long it's been since the anime ended, but I really wanted to do something for this series. I'm not completely satisfied with the second half, but that's probably also due to how inexperienced I am at this whole writing thing. So I figured it was better to just put it out there and let you all tear it apart.
To Naru, being the princess meant being the heroine. The princess was the star of the story, the one who was dazzling like the sun and shone brightly throughout the entire day. It was terribly embarrassing to admit, but whenever she was on stage performing with her friends, Naru did feel like a princess.
That said, she felt more like a manga heroine rather than a princess when she found a love letter in her shoe locker.
No matter what she tried, Naru could not get that letter out of her head. Blocking out the teacher's voice coming from the front of the room, the girl opened her bag and pulled out the white envelope she had discovered earlier that day. Her name was spelled out clearly in neat writing on the front. Opening it up once again, she began to read the contents.
Dear Miss Sekiya Naru,
It's kind of embarassing to admit, but
Nonononono. This was way too embarrassing. She had been trying the entire day, but Naru still hadn't gotten the courage to even finish reading the first line. Did someone really think of her like that? Wasn't this the type of thing that only happened to girls like Yaya-chan or Tami-oneechan? Was a letter like this really meant for someone like her?
Shaking her head, Naru quickly ended her train of thought. If she continued being this negative and insecure, then what would be the point of everything she had gone through lately? Besides, she needed to pay attention to the lesson. This letter could be put off until later. Strengthening her determination, the girl returned the envelope to her bag and resolved to ignore it for the time being.
It was impossible, Naru decided. There was no way she was going to be able to forget about that terrible artifact sitting in her bag for a long time. The girl sighed. She must have spent more time thinking about this sheet of paper before her than she had paying attention in class.
"So, what's wrong?"
From behind her, Naru a voice call out. Turning around, she saw a familiar face walking up to her.
"Yaya-chan!"
"Hey there." Giving a small wave, Yaya walked up behind the shorter girl. "You looked pretty distracted today. What's bothering you?"
"Bothering me?" Naru was confused for a moment, before immediately turning red and realizing what her friend was talking about. Flustered, she quickly attempted to hide the letter that was still in her hands. "N-Nothing's wrong! Wh-Why do you ask?"
Unfortunately for Naru, her actions were noticed by the girl standing behind her. In a flash, Yaya reached over and grabbed the letter out of her hands.
"So, it's this letter, is it?" Yaya muttered, giving the item in her hands a cursory glance. "Why is something like this getting you all work-"
Suddenly, the purple-haired girl paused. She blinked once. Then twice. Then one more time. Even after rubbing her eyes, Yaya still saw that heart-shaped sticker on the back of the letter. No way... that meant that this was...
"...Yaya-chan... What do I do?" Naru whimpered, tears forming in her eyes.
"Ignore it, of course!" Yaya shouted out before Naru even finished speaking.
"Really?"
"I mean, think about it! What else can you do?" Yaya voiced shakily, unable to control her trembling. "You barely have any time since we're practicing every day, you know!"
"T-That's true..."
"besides, what's the point if you're not there..."
"What? I couldn't hear you."
"N-Nothing!" the girl shouted, face extremely flushed. "Anyways, I need to go now."
"Eh!? But the break is almost o-" Naru trailed off as the back of her friend quickly vanished around the corner.
Naru let out another sigh as the teacher finished her lesson and school ended for the day. Even after listening to Yaya's advice, she was still undecided on what she wanted to do. Her thoughts were a mess. Confusion whirled around in her mind. What was she going to do? How should she respond to this letter? Maybe ignoring it really would be best?
Shaking her head, Naru quickly tried to push all those thoughts out of her head. Right now she needed to focus and head to club practice. Previous experience had shown the girl that a lack of concentration led to multiple clumsy accidents while practicing. Taking a glance around the room, Naru noticed that her fellow clubmates had already left the classroom.
"Ah! Tami-oneechan!" Somehow, Naru had made it to the rooftop before Naru or Hana had. A glance around the rooftop revealed that the blue-haired girl was the only one that had arrived.
"Oh! Naru-chan! It's just you?"
"Yes... The other two were already gone by the time I left. I wonder where they are?" Naru wondered as she took a seat next to her friend.
"Naru-chan... what's wrong?"
"Huh? What do you mean?" Naru panicked. Was she really that obvious?
"Naru-chan. I've known you for a long time. Do you really think you can trick me?" Tami stated sternly, giving the girl beside her a pointed stare.
"But..." Naru hesitated. She hadn't even figured out her own thoughts on the problem. It would be unbecoming to bother Tami-oneechan with her problems.
"Naru-chan. Don't you trust me?"
"Alright..." Finally giving in to the pressure from her friend, Naru slowly began recounting her entire day.
"A-and so... I'm not really sure what I should do..." Naru finally finished. Hesitantly, she turned towards her senior for advice... before being completely shocked at what she saw.
"T-Tami-oneechan! Why are you crying!"
In front of Naru sat a girl on the verge of just breaking down and crying. Tami's eyes were extremely red. Her flushed cheeks, combined with her constant sniffing, painted a picture of an extremely miserable girl. On top of that, her voice was extremely shaky and weak, as if she were about to start wailing right then and there.
"N-Naru-chan... I wish you happiness..." Tami managed to get out through her tears, "don't forget me..."
"W-why would I forget you?" the younger girl stammered out, confused at the situation.
"You're all grown up now... I still remember when you were just a child. It feels like it was just yesterday..."
"Tami-oneechan..."
"Geez, it's just a letter, Tami. Calm down. It's not like she's getting married or anything."
Hearing an unexpected voice from the door, the two quickly turned around in shock. Standing there was Tokiwa Machi, another one of their members. In her hand was Yaya, who was being dragged along by the neck while constantly struggling.
"Machi-chan! And..."
"Yaya-chan! What are you doing here?"
"I found her mumbling in a corner on my way here," the yellow-haired girl explained as she dragged her younger companion with her towards the other two, "she was panicking all over and didn't even notice as I approached."
"Hey! I thought I told you to keep that a secret!"
"Anyways, Tami. You need to calm down." Machi stated as she halted a short distance away from the duo, ignoring the girl behind her.
"B-but... Naru-chan is leaving us!" the blue-haired girl protested, tears coming back to her eyes.
"Yeah! What are we going to do without her!"
"You two... what are you even talking about?" the president grumbled, rubbing her forehead in frustration.
"Ugh, what a mess..." Machi complained after finally getting her three clubmates to settle down and explain the situation properly.
"Right!? What do we do?" Yaya shouted, getting caught up in the moment. "It's obviously a trap. Naru, you should just pretend you never saw that letter."
"No, I mean... you haven't even read the letter, right? Should you try doing that before figuring out what to do?"
"Ah."
Three voices spoke at once as they realized the fatal error they had made. Reaching into her bag, Naru pulled out the fateful letter and slowly moved to open it. As she pulled out the letter from the envelope, the other three gathered around her, giving no care to the idea of personal privacy.
Dear Miss Sekiya Naru,
It's kind of embarrassing to admit, but I'm really glad you're my friend. Without you there to support me, I would have been really lost and confused. With you here, I've been able to enjoy every day and have lots of fun! I haven't been able to say it out loud, but thank you very much. Let's keep being friends from now on as well.
You friend,
Hana
"Aaaah! Hey! What are you doing! That letter was for Naru only!"
