Movie Night

Luckily, Ruko's brother is more experienced in the whole having friends over for a sleepover department, because Ruko herself has no clue what to do.

'Relax.' Her brother rolls his eyes. 'Grandma and I've got it all covered.' He hands her a bag.

She opens it. Movies. One horror. A few romance stuff. Some action ones her brother knows she likes. And there's some of that popcorn you throw in the microwave and enjoy as well.

'An excuse to stay up all night on,' he explains. 'And grandma's making lots of other goodies too – and saving some cakes for me I hope.' He raises his voice on the last part, and there's an answering mumble from the kitchen.

Ruko stifles a laugh. Her brother's always been good at that.

He grins back at her. 'And I'm going to go hang out with some friends to leave the house to you girls,' he finished. 'Have fun, relax and grandma's playing hostess so you only have to ask if they want anything from the kitchen every now and then, got it?'

'Got it.' She's feeling more relaxed now, holding on to the bag. If they get bored. Or if they play too many WIXOSS games and feel they need a break. Or if they just want to relax and watch something after dinner that's not some sports recording or old classic.

Then again, she hasn't been there long enough to add her own favourites to the mix yet.

Her brother ruffles her hair. 'Have fun,' he repeats, before picking up another bag. His own. 'I'm outta here.'

He waves and she waves back, before fixing her hair.

.

They do wind up watching the movies. Three of them: the horror, one of the romances and Ruko's all-time favourite to round them off. That's in between chatting over Grandma's freshly baked scones and playing WIXOSS and chatted with their LRIGs until dinnertime, and then chatting through the closing credits.

Ruko is honestly surprised at how smoothly things go. Talking to each other at school is one thing. There's only really lunchtimes and that's to eat, talk and play WIXOSS all in one. Not enough time for awkward silences or something that shouldn't be slipping out to slip. Not like at home where there was all the time in the world. And she'd succeeded in scaring her mother away. Surely scaring two girls her age wouldn't be such a task.

Not that she wants them to disappear on her. But that doesn't deny the possibility that it can happen. Even if she really didn't want it to happen.

Then again, Tama's survived so far and it's because of Tama that she's even met Yuzuki and Hitoe. Maybe they can survive this too.

They don't wind up eating the popcorn though. Hitoe was dainty about it, but Yuzuki just grumbled about weight and Grandma's cooking. And Ruko had to laugh at that. It did seem more like a boy thing than a girl thing…and why not, when it'd been her brother that had brought them for her.

But her brother was still sweet and looking out for her in his own way, just like their Grandma. Just like Tama too. And Hitoe and Yuzuki perhaps.

'We had fun,' says Yuzuki with a grin and an arm around Hitoe to lead her off.

'Me too.' And Ruko smiles and is relieved nothing happened to mess things up.

'And Tama!' Tama's voice piped up from her card – and Ruko can't say anything aloud because Grandma's there, and Hitoe's mum. But Ruko can smile and be happy and wish they can have times like this, longer and for forever.
