Whoa! I'm back only a day or two later? Yeah, I was inspired :')

Well, I can explain this one. Well you see, as much as I love how there are so many fics about England and America's strained relationship, regret and grievances after the American War of Independence, I just feel as if it's been overused. (Don't kill me or anything, please) Trust me, I do love the idea (although I don't like USUK too much, I like UKUS though...) but it's a bit cliche, eh?

I feel as if France's and Canada's torn relationship after the British Empire had taken Canada hasn't been explored all too much. Francis has been portrayed as a father figure to Matthew, a portrayal which I support and that's why Matthew would have felt betrayed and talk such nonsense about loving Arthur. Francis would feel utterly regretful and obviously heartbroken, losing an important person to him again. (He lost dear Jeanne before, interestingly to Arthur/England as well). I do like Franada to some extent, as I do UKCan which is another contributing factor as to why I wrote this. I also like angst.

Gah, sorry about my ranting. ;A;

"Mon cher."

No response.

"Mon fils."

The colony's back is still turned, though the words cause him to flinch.

"Mathieu."

His heartstrings tangle, his fists clench and his eyes fill with tears.

"I want you back."

His heart wills for him to speak, yet his brain forces him to remain silent. As always.

"S'il vous plait."

He hears the longing in the soft whisper, and it takes all of his will power to restrain himself, stop himself from running to the pleading nation. For the Canadian knew that he would hold him, and never let go.

"Je t'aime."

His violet eyes widen in shock. His throat tightens. His heart pounds against his ribcage, threatening to explode. But his brain tells him to be calm. To be mature. Reasonable.

"I belong to the British Empire now. I love Arthur."

According to his brain this was reasonable, sensible. To his heart this was irrational, stupid.

"Q-Quoi...?"

The last three words spoken by the boy shattered the Frenchman's heart into a thousand pieces. Of course, his brain would argue that it wasn't possible.

"N-Non..."

A single tears runs down his pale cheek as he hears his former guardian fall to his knees.

"Oui."

The Canadian begins to walk as the rain begins to pour.

"You gave me up, Francis."

A chocked sob in response; he swears he hears an utterance of "Je suis désolé."

"Au revoir, France."

The French nation cries as he clutches his aching chest, watching his former colony join the emerald-eyed demon.

"Your heart is rotten and your brain is dead, Angleterre."

A smirk. The 'gentleman' holds his Mathieu close, planting a kiss on his soft lips.
