The Avatar Chronicles It has been one year since the end of the 100-year war. The four nations live in harmony and peace flows over the land. After what came to be known as the Final Battle between Aang and former Fire Lord Ozai, over half of the Earth Kingdom was destroyed, leaving the land burned and the people devastated. It was in this time of suffering that the Avatar and the new Fire Lord brought the four nations together to rebuild the Earth Kingdom, starting with Ba Sing Se. After that, the Southern Water Tribe and fire nation colonies living in the Earth Kingdom worked together to rebuild the Southern Air Temple, where Avatar Aang began the Air Acolytes, a group of people who study in the traditional ways of the Air Nomads and raise a new generation air bisons. Toph Bei Fong went back to Ba Sing Se to visit her parents, who still had difficulty understanding their daughter's masterful skill and surprising strength, despite her blindness. She tried to make them understand, and stayed with them for a few months before finally returning to her friends in the Fire Nation Capital. Suki also briefly left the Gaang in order to return to Kyoshi Island and say goodbye to her friends and family. She, as well as two other Kyoshi warriors, Karon and Ty-Lee (originally of the Fire Nation), then moved to the Fire Nation Capital to serve as the Fire Lord's Private Guard. Fire Lord Zuko blended seamlessly into his new position as Fire Lord, with the help of his uncle, and Royal Advisor, Iroh. Zuko and his childhood sweetheart-turned-girlfriend, Mai, continue their relationship. Katara and Sokka also returned to their home, the Southern Water Tribe, but only to tell their family that they were moving to the Fire Nation to help Zuko rule and maintain balance between the four nations. Hakoda became an ambassador for the Southern Water Tribe, as did Chief Arnook for the Northern Tribe. Katara and Sokka moved into the Fire Lord's palace as did Aang, who continues his relationship with Katara. Aang, although under intense stress from the responsibility of keeping the world in balance, continues to be a light in the darkness to the war-torn world. Now a full-fledged master of air, water, and earth, fire is his only weakness. Even so, the world recognizes the Avatar as the most powerful bender in the Nations, and he is well respected by all. And finally, after 100 years of war, there is peace.
