"You know, it would be quite hilarious if Cameron named her kids Kirk and...what was that really annoying girl from Full House's name?" Emily asked, sitting up.
"Do I look like an episode of Vh1 to you?" Abigail asked.
"Candace! Wow, that is something she would totally say." Emily said.
"Shouldn't you be doing your homework?" Abigail asked.
"Shouldn't you be acting like my ten-year-old sister?" Emily asked.
"I just can't wait to hear what mom has to say." Abigail said.
"That stings, Ab, really. You know who would find my Cameron kids theory funny?" Emily asked.
"Gee, who do I know that likes to mock the ducklings and knows eighties pop-culture?" Abigail asked.
"It could be Uncle Jimmy." Emily said smugly.
"Just do your homework, Emily." Abigail said.
"Yes, mom." Emily said.
Emily looked down at her biology book and sighed. "I hate you." Emily said.
"Shut up." Abigail said as she punched some numbers into her calculator.
"Oh my God!" Emily half yelled as she looked around her father's bookshelf.
"What?" Abigail asked.
"Are you worthy of my knowledge?" Emily asked, knowing whatever she had removed from the bookshelf was juicy.
"What is it?" Abigail asked impatiently.
"Repeat after me, Emily is God." Emily said.
"Forget it." Abigail said.
"What are you afraid of, he won't smite you. Or will he? Or she? Or I?" Emily asked, a small smile growing on her face.
"Emily is...just give it here." Abigail sighed.
"Say it." Emily said, still clutching the item to her chest.
"Emily is...God. You know, it would technically be Goddess. Do you even care?" Abigail asked.
"Nope, you said it." Emily said.
"So what is it?" Abigail asked curiously.
"It's a Lupas book, jeez, you actually act like there's something important in here." Emily said, flipping the pages with her thumb. To their surprise, something from between the pages fell on to the floor.
"What is it?" Abigail asked, almost fearfully.
"I don't know." Emily said.
"Pick it up." Abigail said.
"No way, I'm the one who mocks God, I don't wanna get smited. Smited, smote, smitten?" Emily asked in confusion.
"You are pathetic." Abigail said with an eye roll.
They both got down on the floor to examine the object closer.
"Dude, it's a picture." Emily said.
"No way!" Abigail said sarcastically.
"What I meant was why is it in a Lupus textbook?" Emily asked.
"Flip it over." Abigail ordered quite bossily.
Emily gave the photo a skeptical look before flipping the back of the photo onto the front.
"Is that..." Abigail started.
"Mom." Emily confirmed.
"And dad." Abigail said in confusion.
The sisters sat on the floor looking at the photograph inch by inch.
"They look..." Emily looked for words to say.
"Happy." Abigail finished.
"It's weird." Emily said.
"It's unnatural." Abigail said.
"I...like it." Emily said, her face softening at the sight of her parents together in a photo and happy.
"It's never Lupus, Emily." Abigail said.
"I know." Emily said.
Abigail delicately placed the picture back into the Lupus textbook and put it back on the shelf.
"Hey, I love you." Emily said.
"Do your homework." Abigail said with a smile playing at her lips.
I know, I'm not even done with the original story. It was on the mind, inexplicable.
