A young woman stood in one of the Observation Decks abroad the USS Enterprise, staring out the large window into the depths of space, she stood perfectly still but her thoughts were far from it. Her mind was racing over the memories of the past few weeks, when she had been told she was selected to be part of the crew for the rumored five year mission, she had been excited then conflicted.

Excited for the opportunity to grow, to learn, to find the undiscovered, to explore, but then the uncertainty came. Was she capable of living up the standers of the ship? Of the men and women that made up its crew? For hours she had pondered, wondered if this was her best course of action. She had almost declined the assignment but finally the words that made her join Starfleet came to mind, she was still unsure why the brief passage spoke to her but the way it rang though her mind, it made her throw all of her doubts, her fears to the wind. Now here she stood, viewing the stars the words came to her once more.

"It matters not how strayed the gate"

"How charged with punishments the scroll"

"I am the master of my fate"

"I am the captain of my soul"

The words rang loud and clear in the empty room, seeming to try and fill the space, a few moments after she had spoken the young Ensign straighten her shoulders and began to make her way back to her station.

A/N

I really don't know where this came from but I thought I'd post it up for the heck of it. I heard the quote from a trailer for the fan made film "Star Terk:
Renegades" and I just got the itch to write. I may add more later if I get the inspiration, may be something with the crew but for now this is it.
