This is just my opinion on How Arthur should have proposed to Gwen
A/N This is set towards the beginning of the episode Lancelot du Lac and is bit of a prologue
In the kingdom of Camelot it was mid-afternoon and the talented sorcerer otherwise known as Merlin and sometimes as emrys was in Arthur's chambers
"Merlin" Arthur shouted as he entered his bedroom chambers where Merlin was currently preparing the pampered princes dinner
"Yes sire" Merlin responded atomically
"I've decided I'm going to propose to Gwen"
"That's great!" Merlin grinned
"But, there's a problem" he sighed
"What?"
"I need an idea about how to do it" he told his manservant
"I think the line Will You marry me is tradition" Merlin said bluntly
"No you maroon" Arthur glared "I mean how should I tell her"
"How about you take her to cottage and propose there" Merlin suggested
"I want it to be special!" Arthur complained
Merlin thought about it for a bit "How about you light a hundred candles"
"Perfect!" Arthur grinned
"Really" Merlin said in a surprised tone "You actually like it"
"Yeah! Even though you are a complete and utter idiot Merlin; you have your moments"
Merlin was felling quite happy with himself
"Now go and light a hundred candles in Gwen's house" Arthur said in calm and collected manner
"What?"
"You heard me" Arthur said "Go and light a hundred candles inside of Gwen's cottage"
"Why me?" Merlin protested
"Because, I'm busy" Arthur yelled
"Doing what?" Merlin augured
"Making dinner"
Merlin glared at Arthur. "You're making dinner"
"Your right" Arthur admitted
Merlin groaned "Well that's good you're finally seeing it form someone else's prespe…" Merlin was cut off by Arthur speaking over
"You should go and make it" Arthur told him
Arthur then left and started heading to the door
"By the way" he called back "It has to be ready for at the 6 o'clock or you can have some fun in the stocks"
H smiled as he confidently left the room leaving a stunned Merlin behind him
"Unbelievable" Merlin groaned as he left to get start on his lengthy project and to buy some candles
