Memories

by KSchmidt

Colors.

There are millions of them.

Different shades.

Endless combinations, but always composed of two others.

Except for three. The primary colors. Red. Blue. Yellow.

He knew they would notice. Anyone who knew him or the first team would have realized it the moment the Dino team appeared.

HER color wasn't there. It couldn't be there, not if they expected him to live through this team.

He could say that they didn't need it. That there had been many teams without that color, but it wasn't the truth.

Ha, the truth. That's a concept that seemed almost foreign to him...he'd spent too many years lying, to his friends, to his family, to his "lovers." He sometimes forget what was real and what wasn't it. Too many secrets that needed to be kept to protect the world. The truth, he didn't know if he could handle the truth.

It was the memories. Watching the relationship form between two of his pupils he knew that if it had been her color that was there, he wouldn't have survived. The urge to protect was too strong, too uncontrolable as it was with her first animal present, if it had been her color as well...he just couldn't.

In the end it was almost too much, but her color still wasn't there. To be sure if it were to be done again, it still wouldn't be there.

For such an innocent color it caused so much pain...and not just for him. He had seen it on the news. She had fullfilled her dream. Others wore what she designed.

More truth...he had watched her first show, and everyone since. He was proud of her, but he saw it. Her color wasn't there.

Too much pain for both of them.

They couldn't blame him, if she couldn't handle IT either. Some wounds just stayed fresh no matter how much time had past.
