Her feet pounded on the pavement, creating a steady rhythm; her heart thumped in her chest along to the tune of her music coming through the ear buds that were connected to her iPhone.
The upbeat tune thrummed through her ears, her feet continuing to hit the pavement in quick succession, never altering speed.
Thump, thump, thump, thump.
She continued along the streets, rounding corners as she came to them, crossing roads without looking, ignoring the honking of car horns of those she cut off; sweat beading on her forehead and the back of her neck, trickling underneath her shirt, leaving parts of her shirt visibly damp.
Thump, thump, thump, thump.
Trees passed her, people and cars. But she didn't notice as they passed, her feet still continuing their steady progression on the pavement, her mind continuing to flash the images of the kid she shot dead in front of her eyes.
This only succeeding in pushing her harder as she picked up the pace, her eyes filling with tears, blurring her vision as she pushed on, everything flying by her in a blur.
Thump, thump, thump, thump.
Her feet continued to pound on the pavement, through streets known to her, past houses that were recognizable, until she found herself on a familiar street, at a familiar house, before falling into a familiar set of arms, sobbing her heart out.
He held her caring and lovingly for what seemed like hours…She knew now that everything would be alright.
