"Proirities"
…..
"You have to make a choice."
Her words shocked him, and made him wonder- where did they come from? What had he missed?
"Kairi…listen to me."
"No, Sora. You-have-to-make-a-choice."
"A choice?"
"Yes. Which is more important to you, Sora? That Keyblade, or us?"
And then, just like that, his world started to spin backwards. What was she talking about? Didn't she know he had done everything for her? Didn't she know that the only reason he ever picked up the stupid thing was to find her?
She used to find that romantic. Her hero, her knight in shining armor, fighting off droves of Heartless to rescue the princess. And now that he had certain obligations to the King, to the people of every single world he rescued, now that the job wasn't as exciting as it was, now she decided she didn't want any part of it?
Life just wasn't fair, was it? Here he was, sacrificing any chance of a normal teenage existence so that people he had never met could live, and all he had ever asked for in return was her affection, her love. He finally found his voice, just in time to ask the question he would always regret asking.
"Would you have preferred me to be like Riku?" He almost spat the name. Why was that idiot always lurking in the back of his mind, mocking him?
"Yes! Sora, at least he was doing everything he could to save me. At least he wasn't spending all of his time trying to be everyone else's hero!"
"Save you? You call selling his soul to the darkness saving you?"
"He was willing to give up everything for me. You weren't!"
They were screaming at each other now. Sora took a deep breath and stepped back several paces. The next time he spoke, it was in a quiet, menacing voice. Looking back on this moment later, he would realize that he was making the biggest mistake of his sixteen years.
"Well, why don't you go and cry on Riku's shoulder then? I'm sure he'd be willing to sacrifice some of his time for you."
Kairi turned up her pert chin defiantly, turning on her heel. He watched her walk out of the room and out of his life, chin still held high. Just like a queen, he thought.
Or a Princess.
FIN
A/N: You like? Hetero-Angsty Sora is a rare thing these days…I did turn him into a bit of a whiny bitch, though, didn't I?
