She's back.

The Eleventh Doctor suddenly finds his bowtie too tight, his suspenders digging into his skin, the room too hot.

It was impossible; but then again, they'd both always loved the impossible, hadn't they?

He feels his jaw drop in surprise, and he whispers her name. She smiles at him; but her smile is not the blinding, brilliant smile from his memories.

Or is it? There's no difference. He compares the exact facial expressions that he is seeing now with the perfectly recollected images from his past; no. It's the same smile.

So why doesn't it shine as bright?

She tilts her head to one side, and asks where he is. He laughs nervously, and looks her in the eye. There is a moment, before she leans in, shocked, confused, disappointed... hopeful.

She says his name, but her voice tips up at the end, making it a question. He nods. Her voice breaks as she begins to speak; she thinks she wants to go back. She has no idea how she got here, she was walking and now... She notices the TARDIS, it's interior, then properly notices it's driver.

He doesn't want her anymore.

Oh, he still loves her. He's the Doctor; the Doctor will always love Rose Tyler.

But the Doctor has other loved ones. His poor, poor wife, back on Gallifrey. Romana. Grace Holloway, for a while. Rose, of course - he even loves Amy, a little. Then there was everyone else that he loved, like family; Amy, Donna, Rory, Mickey, Martha, Jack, Sarah-Jane, Jo, Leela, Liz, Jamie, Zoe, Tegan, Peri, Ace, Adric, Susan, Jenny, Barbera, Ian, Turlogh, Nyssa... and so many more.

But regeneration has changed things.

He is so glad she wants to go back, so glad. He tries to hide it, but it's still a new body, in the scheme of things, and he's found out that this face isn't very good with emotions regardless.

She, of course, notices.

And it hurts both of them.

So, they find the way she came through - aftermath of Big Bang 2.

But before she leaves - they have about two minutes, ironically - he tells her.

That he will always love her, regardless of regeneration.

That he's happy she's happy.

That he sends his regards to the meta-crisis. It's almost like having a twin brother, after all.

That he hasn't stopped loving her, he's just learnt how to live without her.

That he hasn't moved on - you can't move on from something like that - but the weight has shifted.

That it would be different he'd regenerated with her by his side.

That now, the desperate, needy love he'd felt was tied up with the section of his mind that was the Tenth Doctor.

That it slipped through, every now and again, and he'd find himself crying, without feeling sad.

That he supposed he really had moved on, if he thought about it.

That he hadn't wanted to move on.

That he regenerated and the love slipped away, because it needed to; because of what he'd become.

That he could easily fall for her again.

That he didn't want to let himself, because he'd lose her again - no doubt about that - and if he did, he'd go back to Before.

That Before, without her but before regeneration, he was a monster.

...

That he supposed, after all, he didn't love her anymore.

Okay. So, this may sound sad. I dunno. It's meant to be... accepting. He's moved on, I don't care what anyone says.

Of course he loves her. It's just shifted. Joined the group of names that are his 'family'.

He loves her in his memories, if that makes sense. But he's the Doctor, he's not going to live in the past.

So, that's my belief, and it's why I don't really like Eleven/Rose - I don't think the Doctor would let himself fall for her again.
