Summary: He had taught her the art of origami when she was only a mere girl, but he didn't think she would have taken up the art seriously, but here she was making a thousand paper cranes.

She had only been twelve when taught her the art of origami.

She must have caught him folding the thin sheet of paper into a crane or something, because the next thing she knew she was asking him to teach her.

He found himself teaching the girl who seemed so eager to learn the art. He even told her the legend of thousand paper cranes. Saying something along the lines if you make a wish on the thousandth paper crane it would come true.

He even remembers her somewhat childish question if he ever made a thousand paper cranes to see if there is any truth to the legend. He silently shook his head no at that question.

It was the honest truth.

He has never been the type of person to believe in wishes, and most of the time he only makes paper cranes out of boredom.

Hayate did tell him once she had spent weeks folding the pieces of origami paper into paper cranes, only to stop at five hundred. Either out of boredom or because her wish wouldn't have come true even if she made it thousands, although he has a sneaky suspicion it was the latter.

Shortly after she made her five hundredth paper crane a friend of her has had died from some disease, but that was the only thing Hayate told him.

He silently watches the female fold the light pink piece of paper into a crane.

He can still recall Kasumi asking him for a couple of packets of origami paper. Her leg had been injured in assassination attempt on her life, and it has somewhat force her to be stuck in bed for a couple of weeks until her leg is healed.

He was honestly a bit surprise by her request, but he gave in. It did give her something to do instead of moping around. He vaguely watches her fold a thin pink piece of paper into a paper crane. It must have been her hundredth one considering all of the paper cranes decorating her bed and the floor.

"Are you hungry?" he questions indicating the plate of food he was carrying. She nods realizing she hasn't had any food since breakfast.

"Thank you," she utters lightly as he places the tray of food on her lap along with a cup of green tea. "Did you eat already?"

"Not hungry," he replies causing a small frown to cross her face but didn't reply but decided to say nothing on the matter.

"So how many have cranes have you done so far?" he questions sitting down on a chair a couple of inches away from her bed.

"A hundred and twenty five," she replies raising the cup of green tea to her lips taking a small sip from the cup.

"If you make it to a thousand what would you wish for?" he questions after a moment.

She frowns lightly before softly answering him "Freedom."

"Freedom?" he questions. Surprised by her answer he half expected her answer to be able to return to the clan in peace to live with her brother and parents again.

She nods "Freedom from the clan mostly. I want the death sentence to be lifted off of me."

He nods in understanding, "I hope your wish comes true."
