018-Rainbow

Rainbow was a fascinating phenomenon, a nature wonder that many humans find beautiful and consider like a small miracle. Funny, considering that this miracle was always preceded by a formal and depressing event of everyday life: rain. A dark rainy day and suddenly a small and a frail ray of light managed to pass the thick black clouds and created the rainbow; all the color working in harmony.

"My sons come see this." Master Splinter said managing to take his sons attention away from the "Trivial Pursuit" board game. They were at the farmhouse for a month and they were locked inside because of the rain for the last three day. Casey and April had gone to the village to buy some supplies. The four teenagers got up and joined their father at the window.

"Whoa dudes, check this out, a real rainbow." Michelangelo said as he presses his snout on the window's glass. His big blue eyes were filling with amazement.

"Thanks Mikey, but we have two eyes to see it." Raphael comments, teasing his younger brother, but his dark brown eyes never leave the colourful arch. Event if he tries to hide it, his eyes have the same sparkle than his baby brother's one.

"It's so…beautiful." Donatello mutters as his soft brown eyes been studding the rainbow with the curiosity of a child and scientific eye.

Leonardo just nods, his hazel eyes meet his father's one. They smile at each other for a moment before the young leader looks back at the sky. In seventeen years of life, it was the first time that the turtle could assist at a real nature wonder.

Splinter looks at each of them: green, yellow, blue, red, purple and orange. If a rainbow was a miracle, his four boys was his own rainbow. When his path crossed the one of this four baby turtle covered with this strange ooze, his life have been a continuity of gloomy day, since the murder of his beloved master. The boys have been the small ray of light he needed; the first step for the sun to shine again. Since then, his rainbow was there chasing rainy day and always brings sunlight.

"Awww, already finished. Just too bad." Mikey complained, pouting a bit, as the rainbow was fading.

Splinter patted his son's shoulder. "Look carefully Michelangelo, you can see another one." The orange clap turtle snout returns in the window. "Really? Where?" Splinter chucked at his son reaction.

A honk sound takes their attention back on the farmhouse drive. "There's April and Casey." Donatello said. He gets out of the house to help their friends. Raphael grabs his baby brother by his bandana. "Come on." "Ow, ow, ow….Yeah yeah, I'm coming…"

Leonardo stays a moment, lost in his thoughts. "You know sensei. I think I can see the rainbow you're talking about." He finally says looking at his father. "But a rainbow could not look so beautiful without the soft grey sky to set off the color." Leonardo smiled at his father, before touching his small, grey furred, hand and go help his brothers.

Splinter just look backed at his hand as small tears of joy was rolling on his fur.
