Parent's Evening
"Parent's evening, great." Leonard mumbled as he headed to the kid's school. It's not like Lavernius and Michael were bad at school... but neither of them were A* students. "Let's just get this over and done with."
Leonard got out of the car when he arrived at school. Making his way towards his two children he also spotted their two friends, Dexter and Franklin. Dexter had come round to the house before and it was easy to see why him and Lavernius were friends, they were like night and... night. And Michael was talking to a boy who he presumed was Franklin, Leonard hadn't actually met the blonde yet but he new they were fast friends.
"Ready to go?" Leonard asked as he approached the four boys. Michael and Lavernius nodded, leading their Dad inside.
Well... it couldn't be that bad... would it?
"So who are we seeing first?" Leonard asked, following his children down the school corridor.
"Sarge." Lavernius answered bluntly, this probably wasn't his favourite teacher. "He's our Sport teacher."
"An army Sargent teaches you Sport?" Leonard may not have been the most involved parent but this did sound strange.
"He isn't a Sargent." Michael piped up. "That's his name!"
"Is it his first name or his last?"
"No one knows."
Lavernius entered a classroom and set down in front of his teacher. If Sarge wasn't apart of the army he sure did belong there. Even Leonard was intimidated by this guy.
"Um, hello... Sir. I'm Leonard Church, Lavernius' and Michael's father." Leonard introduced himself, albeit awkwardly.
"I teach both Michael and Lavernius for Sport." Leonard could tell that Sarge had a southern accent, which would be fine. If Michael hadn't told him that Sarge was a pirate.
"Michael... well he tries. Lavernius however is one of the laziest people I have ever met, second only to Dexter."
"Tell me something I don't know." Leonard mumbled, apparently his son still head him though.
"Hey."
"Come on Dad! We need to go see Washingtub!" Michael exclaimed, pulling his dad along through the school.
"What's he talking about?" Leonard asked Lavernius, a common question when it came to Michael.
"His English teacher Mr Washington."
"Hello Mr Washingtub!" Michael ran up to who Leonard presumed was Mr Washington.
"It's Washington Michael." The English teacher started but need with a shake of his head. "We'll work on that after your spelling. Mr Church I presume?" Mr Washington stood up and shook Leonard's hand.
"Michael is an extremely enthusiastic individual, it's clear that he tries his hardest in class." Washington smiled at Michael, who at the moment was fidgeting in Leonard's lap. "He is struggling with the basics though such as spelling or reading. Did you ever read to him when he was younger?"
Leonard shook his head. "Allison used to though."
Washington nodded and passed Leonard a piece of paper. "This was last weeks homework."
"You got homework?" Leonard took the paper from the English teacher. The paper was titled 'What I will do in 100 years.'"
Michael had drawn a tombstone with his name on it.
"We're a realistic family."
"Alright, who's next?"
"Miss Carolina. She's my Maths teacher." Lavernius said winking at his teacher as he sat down.
"Please stop doing that Lavernius. Lavernius seems to be struggling in Maths, he told me he finds it hard."
"That's not the only thing that's hard. Bow Chicka Wow Wow!"
Carolina ignored Lavernius (it clearly hadn't been the first time something like this had happened) and instead gave Leonard a Maths paper.
Many of the pages hadn't been filled in, but the ones that had featured stupid question like 'What is 500-55+73' which Lavernius had answered as 'a lot'. He had also answered the question 'name one way to perform division' with 'use your head'.
"He needs to work harder."
Leonard nodded though he knew it would be hopeless. When Lavernius set his mind to it he wouldn't do anything. "We'll work on it."
"Sooooo..." Lavernius drawled out as the family left the school grounds. "That went well."
"I wouldn't exactly say well Lav." Leonard laughed. "You flirted with your Maths teacher. And pretty badly at that."
"Oh come on, you can tell she feels the same way."
Leonard scoffed. "Keep telling yourself that kid." He then turned to Michael. "What'd you think about today?"
"Mr Washingtub is proud of me!"
"He's not the only one Michael." Leonard ruffled his son's hair.
"You know Dad." Lavernius spoke up. "It's probably too late to put something in the oven."
"What are you suggestion Lav?" Leonard raised an eyebrow at his eldest.
"Takeaway?"
Leonard nodded. "Takeaway."
