A/N: This is my pure reaction to Chapter 540 and the reveal that Nobume was once a student of Shouyo-Sensei. I also wrote this months ago, and never bothered to post. This is way AU now.
The night before his death, he dreamed of his students. Of his first, Gintoki, found unwanted in a field of death, to jaded to be a child. Of his others, that came to his school, that learned what he had to teach them. Of Takasugi, that stubborn child that didn't even realize that he was learning. Of Katsura, who just showed randomly following Takasugi. And of his last student, the girl without a name, who came every night to listen to him.
He dreams of the past, of the has been, the possibility. He also dreams of the future, a country torn with even a more chaotic war then the one being fought outside these prison walls. In this dream through, he sees a ray of light. Gintoki, Takasugi, Katsura, and the Girl without a Name fighting together to save Japan.
Even as he is taken where he is to die, he hopes if the world started down that horrible path to war, that those four children will fight to save it.
And they did.
