Joel has told me much of what life was like before the CBI outbreak. It's actually very difficult for me to imagine peace.

Summer 2033

September 27, 2013, 12:23 AM Central

Little Rock, Arkansas

After a very long day at work, Erik Lachance finally came home and slept down on the couch and next to his son, who was only four years old and already asleep on the couch. Since he didn't hear any crying coming from Ray's room, then that meant that Bella put Ray to sleep.

"Hi, Erik, rough day at work?" A feminine voice said. Erki looks up and sees his wife standing at the doorway leading to the kitchen. He says nothing and does nothing but nod.

"Pretty typical day for an IT guy like me." He clarified. "I need to find a job where I can come home in the afternoon instead of coming home at the eve of the day."

Bella quickly approached and picked up her four-year son. "I'll take you to bed Scoot." She says before carrying him up the stairs.

While waiting patiently for her to return, Erki grabs the remote from the coffee table and switches on the TV. there was actually something very stunning on the news. Apparently, there was some kind of people going crazy and attacking. "What the hell is this bullshit?" He grumbles before switching the station. On every single channel was the news about these crazy people attacking. Even a warning message turned on, telling all citizens of Little Rock to go to their closest shelter and bring an ID badge with. Some kind of parasite was going around. "They really expect me to believe this stuff?" He shakes his head in disagreement. However, considering that he a wife and two sons with him, he did not want to take any chances. I'll tell Bella and we'll take Scoot and Ray there. Then I can finally get some rest.

Throwing the remote to the side and walking up the stairs, he first walks into Ray's room. In the crib, lied two-year-old Ray in his little Tigger pajamas. He cradles the infant in his arms before he walks to Scoot's room, where Bella should be putting him in his bed.

What he finds inside Scoot's room had shocked Erik. Bella stood over the sleeping Scoot in bed. She stares intensely at Scoot and she starts growling. It was then when Erik noticed a wound on her leg. Suddenly Bella snarled and sank her teeth into the neck of Scoot.

Erik cried in terror as he watched his son get torn apart. He wanted to do something but with the infant Ray in his hands, it was almost impossible since he did not want anything bad to happen to his son. He did notice one odd thing however, Scoot was not screaming at all. He vaguely remembers coming home and he saw some kind of bruise on his elbow. It was like some kind of bite or something and that is when Erik realized that whatever his now inhuman wife has, his son has.

Erik quickly runs out of the house after grabbing his car keys. He quickly presses the unlock button and straps Ray in his car seat. "I'll get you out of here son," Erik says before kissing Ray on the head. He jumps into the driver's seat and drives off into the distance. While driving, he did have one regret, he did not put Bella or Scoot out of their miseries and he instantly wished he did.

"Don't worry son, I will get us out of here. I will drive us to uncle Carlos. He will take care of us." Erik looks in the rearview mirror. "No matter what, I am not stopping. We already enough gas to last us a couple hundred miles."

Ray coos and stares up at the ceiling. Despite that Ray was two years old, he still lacked the ability to actually speak. Erik was actually starting to get worried that Ray may never speak. He slaps himself several times in the head before turning on the radio. Nothing was on at all. "How is it possible that there is no radio or cell phone?" He asked himself and Ray. Ray did nothing but coo.

"Whatever is happening Ray, is not good." Then the radio finally came on. The voice of a male news reporter was on and telling people about some kind of fungal infection that came from South America. "What the hell," he grumbled upon hearing the shocking revelation of what was going on. "It's not just the south, it's the east, west, and now north." He tightens his grips on the wheel. He could see the whites of his knuckles. "Goddamn."

After several hours of driving, Erik finally arrived at the Arkansas-Tennessee border, which was blocked off by several guards in SWAT uniforms. There was one odd thing however, no vehicles were driving through the border. Maybe nobody had arrived yet, Erik said to comfort himself. "We should be in Nashville in a few more hours." He told Ray.

Just as the car was within several yards of the border, three SWAT soldiers at the station shouted for him to stop and when he refused, they aimed their guns at him. Erik got the message and slowed before coming to a complete stop. One of the SWAT soldiers approached the car with his gun raised and aimed at Erik's head.

All of a sudden, Erik body convulsed. He gasps in pain and grabs his wrist. Something was happening to him. The soldier stared at Erik in horror as he saw blood begin to leak from the man's eyes.

All of a sudden, Erik remembered something he heard on the radio a few hours ago. A fungus infection and that meant it spread by spores and that the fungus has been spotted in the city. He worked in the city as an IT. He must have inhaled the spores.

"Sir, are you alright?" The soldier asks before blood spilled from Erik's mouth. He snarls and reaches for Ray. Upon noticing the baby in the car, the SWAT soldier shoots the infected the Erik in the head, killing him instantly.

Luckily, no infected blood came into contact with Ray.

The SWAT soldier was so relieved that he did not shoot the baby by accident.

The soldier quickly smashes the window to the back left door and pulls little Ray out and cradles him. Another soldier had joined him and looted the corpse of Erik. The second soldier checked his wallet for any identification. "His name was Erik Lachance." The second soldier says to his partner. He then finds an image of his family. 'Erik, Bella, Scoot, and newborn Ray' it said.

"Ray Lachance, the baby's name is Ray." The second soldier says to his partner who was still holding the baby in his arms. Both soldiers already had a feeling that all of Ray's family was dead, otherwise, they would have traveled with them, but they found only Erik in the car.

Ray then began to cry in the first soldier's hands. The soldier was already beginning to feel bad because Ray had no family. "I am so sorry Ray. I won't let anything happen to you." He says. He already felt tears streaming down his cheek. He had just orphaned an infant. "I will find you parents who will want you and take care of you." He says before he and the second soldier walk back.
