Smoker's Kiss

Hughes/Havoc

Drabble/Short Story

He didn't know what to think now as he sat against the outside of Hughes's dorm door, flicking his lighter open and staring at the bright flames. Yet again the Colonel made another fine catch, but now he was starting to suspect that the Taisa and Lieutenant Colonel had been together long before he came along.

He should be in bed right now, instead of staying up long after midnight to try and catch the ex-smoker at some crime that was no fault of his own. Sighing deeply, he perked up as he heard footsteps coming down the hall, and he hastily got to his feet, tucking his lighter into a pocket.

Maes stopped, blinking as he found his blonde partner glaring at him. "Shouldn't you be in bed, Second Lieutenant?" he asked, in an almost cold tone.

Havoc averted his gaze to the ground, murmuring, "With all due respect, sir, but where do you go at night?" There was a silence, but no response. Jean pressed on, his voice quieter. He wasn't used to interrogating higher-ups like this. "Is it to the Colonel's?"

Maes stared at Havoc, feeling some twisted sort of pride at the speed Jean was able to figure this out. Havoc glanced up at Maes for a second, before sighing heavily, shaking his head.

"Nevermind."

He pushed past Hughes, slowly starting down the hallway to his own dorm. The Second Lieutenant blinked, however, as he found his hands caught by Hughes, who had promptly followed. His arms were pinned above his head as he was pushed against the wall, roughly, but not enough to hurt him.

"Do you love me?" Maes asked, staring into Havoc's eyes.

Havoc stared back, then struggled to get away. "Let me go."

Maes leaned his face closer, his lips grazing the blonde's, his breath hot on his soldier's skin. "Do you love me?" he repeated, calmly, gripping the officer's hands tighter.

Havoc stared back at Hughes, not understanding why it was so crucial to answer this question. He dropped his gaze as he slowly nodded. Upon doing so, he felt pressure being applied gently to his lips, then Maes gently wrapping his arms around him. Hughes gently nipped at the officer's ear, softly whispering.

"Then that's all you need to know."
