Summary: Why is it that jellyfish are named jellyfish? Well, Boromir knows the answer to that. It is obvious, really. Features young Boromir and Faramir.

Author's Note: This was inspired by my younger brother, who at the time was two, told me how jelly comes from jellyfish. As most would know, children are known to say comical things without the intention of it being comical. That of course, is the amusing part. Through the eyes of a child, this story may seem to make perfect sense. It certainly did to Boromir.

Jellyfish

Boromir sat in the dining hall nibbling his food sleepily. He had been woken up early, by a two year old Faramir, who was excited about the upcoming arrival of Prince Imrahil. He was supposed to be arriving later that day, and Faramir was restless.

Faramir sat in between Boromir and his mother, Lady Finduilas, continuing to fidget out of anticipation. Boromir sighed, munching on a jelly-covered piece of toast. The next moment, Boromir stopped munching, looking at his piece of toast thoughtfully. Lady Finduilas was befuddled by this, for it was usually Faramir who wore that same thoughtful gaze. Finduilas watched as Boromir turned to Faramir and began to speak.

"Did you know, Fari', that the jelly on my toast came from the jellyfish in the sea?" Boromir questioned Faramir, motioning to his piece of toast. Faramir stared at the piece toast, confused.

"You mean, at the sea we saw when we went to visit Uncle Im...Imr'il?" Faramir wondered. Lady Finduilas smiled as her son struggled to pronounce her brother's name, though; she continued to eat her breakfast politely, as if she did not hear.

"Yes! Why else would they call them jellyfish if they did not make jelly? It is like….like how cows make milk, and jellyfish make jelly." Boromir stated confidently. Faramir tilted his head to one side, much to the amusement of his mother. Faramir shrugged, and then nodded.

"I guess your right Bo'mir…but that must mean that there are…strawberry jellyfish, and raspberry jellyfish, and apricot jellyfish, and blueberry jellyfish…and…and a jellyfish for all of the other kinds of jellies, right?" Faramir asked his older brother. Boromir pondered this for a moment, scratching his chin.

"Hmmm…yes! I think that is right Fari'!" Boromir exclaimed after a moment. At this point, the Lady Finduilas decided to step in.

"Now, Boromir, what is this talk of jellyfish?" She asked him, a smile playing on her lips.

"Oh…I was just telling Fari' that jelly comes from jellyfish." Boromir told her, matter-of-factly. Finduilas smiled at her son's confidence. She would surely not wish to spoil it.

"Oh? And where did you learn this? Did your Uncle Imrahil tell you?" She asked knowingly. She already knew what Boromir would answer, but she would be much happier to hear it from her own son.

"I learned it myself. No one helped." Boromir smiled, hoping for the praise of his mother. Boromir added quickly, "Well, Fari' helped also."

Finduilas smiled warmly at her two sons, and then hugged them both tightly.

"I am so proud of you both!" She whispered to them. Oh, how she wished to see jellyfish once more. Perhaps then, Boromir could teach her to make jelly!
