Sam sighed as the large, glowing piece of alien technology sputtered,
popped, and died. It had taken her all afternoon just to get a low hum,
but now even that was gone. It was definitely time for a coffee break!
She gingerly stood up and shuffled some papers together before heading to the commissary. As she made her way through the darkened room toward the coffeepot, a voice made her turn around.
"Ladies and gentlemen, miracle of miracles, Major Samantha Carter has finally left her lab!"
"Hey Colonel, I thought you'd be home by now."
"Nah, Hammond stopped me with a load of paperwork before I could make my escape."
Sam sat down across from him.
"It's not like you to let a little paperwork get in your way."
"Yeah, well, Hammond's been starting to lay down the law. Protocol and everything."
"Protocol." Sam repeated the word shifting uncomfortable. "Sir," she started as she slowly slid her hand across the table to join his. "It's been three weeds. We need to talk about what almost happened."
"Almost? Almost happened? Sam, I fell in love with you. I didn't know who you were or who I was for that matter, but I still fell in love with you."
She shuffled to the seat beside him and into his arms, stealing a forbidden moment.
"Jack, I fell in love with you too," she muffled against his shoulder." It's not very fair, is it? I mean, we risk everything for this world and the worlds of others, and the one thing we ask in return we can never have."
Jack sighed across the top of her head.
"Hey, never say never. Maybe they can't be in this mountain or with this project, but Jonah and Therra will always be here and here," he said putting his hand to her temple and then to his heart. "Someday we'll get to be them again."
Sam snuggled closer and smiled. "Yeah, someday."
If the years take away every memory that I have I would still know the way that would lead me back to your side. The North star may die but the light that I see In your eyes will burn there always Lit by the love we have shared before time.
