Telly Time

Authors note: This story is for my wonderful friend Treehopper, who inspired the idea for this story.

Rose sat plopped in an oversized bean bag, her hair still wet from her shower. The Doctor was busy in the control room, fiddling with something or other that was wrong with the TARDIS. After a day of running through swamps filled with gigantic bugs, she was more than willing to leave him to it and watch some telly.

She had found the tv room while exploring a couple of weeks after she started traveling with the Doctor. She had been so excited about being able to watch her favorite shows even from the future, that the Doctor had only mildly teased her about it before shaking his head and muttering "silly apes" under his breath.

A bit later the Doctor wandered in, wanting to see what Rose was up to. He settled beside her on the bean bag, offering her a Java cake from the bag he carried.

"Whatcha watchin?" he asked, munching happily on one of the cakes.

"One of my favorite American shows. Angel. Its about this vampire detective, pretty good."

"Lots of hot American blokes then?" he asked, smirking as she blushed.

"Just a bit, yeah," she replied, sticking her tongue out at him.

They watched in silence for a while, the Doctor marveling about the stupidity of some of the characters. This Angel bloke, stupid name for a guy anyway, all he did was mope about. Pretty pathetic if you asked him.

"I don't see why you like this dribble if you ask me Rose. What's so great about some bloke that spends all his time moping about, when he could be out living his life. Although, if he's a vampire, does that still count?"

She stared at him, a little smile playing at the corner of her mouth. "Well Doctor, maybe I just like the whole dark and broody thing, yeah? Can't think of any indications you may've seen that would've clued you in to that?" She looked pointedly at him, before returning her attention to the screen.

He felt his mouth hanging open just a bit and closed it with a click. He stared in front of him, unsure what to reply to that statement. His attention was drawn to her pink bunny slippers and he grinned. Rose Tyler never ceased to amaze him. Earlier she had seemed so mature and confident while trying to bluff him out of the prison cell he had found himself in. But now, here she was, watching sappy tv and wearing fuzzy slippers.

He realized the show was over and Rose was watching him with an odd expression on her face. He realized she was probably waiting for him to say something. Before he could think about it he blurted out, "And what's he got to be so broody about anyway. I could show him a thing or two about what it really means to brood."

Rose laughed, drawing his attention. "You're right Doctor, he's got nothing on you. Why, here you are, all dark and broody about someone on the telly, obviously got your priorities straight. Lucky for me I like 'em like that, ay?"

She leaned in, giving him a quick kiss on the lips, drawing away before he had a chance to react. As she got up and headed for the door, she glanced back at the stunned and speechless Doctor.

"Or lucky for you Doctor"
