Emma's POV

"We've got him out!" The man hauled a limp figure of her brother up from the pond. Emily surged forwards, her eyes large and desperate, reaching out to the only person that she had ever loved with all her heart.

And he was dead.

Jack's dark chocolate hair was streaked with white, his skin covered in a thin veil of frost, and a peaceful expression covered his face. She caught him in her tiny arms, sobbing as she stroked his stiff hair. If only she hadn't begged Jack to help her skate, maybe this wouldn't have happened at all.

"I'm sorry... I'm sorry..." She whimpered as her fingers ran over the corpse of her beloved brother. She was dimly aware of a gasping mother behind her, who crouched down and sobbed with Emma. Unable to bear holding the body in front of a crowd, she hefted the heavy form up and dragged it as carefully as humanely possible towards the clearing where Jack loved. Spring grass had started to spring from the moist soil, and small, blue flowers that her brother cherished were beginning to show.

"Look Jack, Baby Tooth is saying hi." A tear rolled down her cheek as she watched the determined flower that had stayed rooted in its spot for years finish enduring another winter in triumph. Wrapping her fingers around Jack's cold ones, she closed her eyes and remembered.

"Look Em! That flower's been here for another winter!"

"It's in our clearing, what should we call it?"

"Look at the little white teeth shape in the heart of it, it looks like a baby tooth! Maybe it's your tooth that you lost a few weeks ago."

"I can still feel the gap, maybe when it starts growing, the flower will die."

"Don't be so sad Em. Baby Tooth will be around until the day I die, just you wait and see. We'll come here every spring, and we'll say hello to our little Baby Tooth."

Another tear streaked down her face.

"My brother is dead, Baby Tooth. He left me. Will you?"

I'm sorry, this is just a teaser for the new fic that I'll write after I finish my Team Today, Team Tomorrow and Some Heroes Are Better For Some Legacies fanfictions.
