A/N: If you know me, you know I'm not the biggest fan of Joshaya. Mainly because I was on the Lucaya ship for such a long time that I never really noticed Josh. I will admit, this suggestion came from a guest reviewer on my Find My Way Back To You fanfic and at first I hated the idea. However, I actually really enjoyed writing this. I know it's not my best work, but I wanted to share it anyway, just to see if the reviewer was right. So here is: I thought you'd never ask.
She looked at Riley, at Topanga and then at Josh. Her hand entwined in his after a surprise date. The long game was finally over. She was beaming at them, despite the fact Riley was glaring at them both. Maya never did understand why it was so wrong. She had always liked him. There was never anyone else. She needed him.
"What do you think you're doing, young lady?" Topanga asked, strict as ever with her arms crossed and her face fierce. Maya grinned a little at Josh before turning back serious for the Matthews family.
"I'm sorry. I should've checked if it was okay with you first. I take full responsibility. This is my fault." Josh interrupts before she could even get in a word.
"Well I appreciate that, Josh. You can go home now. As for you, Maya. It's girls night." Maya had completely forgotten. She always did girls night once a month with Topanga, her Mom, Riley and occasionally Isadora. This time, only the first four were available.
Riley broke the awkward tension whilst they waited for Katy.
"So Maya, where did he take you? Where?" She was eager. Surely, that was a good thing. Although, judging by her face it wasn't.
"To a little cafe near my house. We just had a really great talk about everything and I think he wants to end the long game, but I don't want to ask in case he doesn't." Riley nodded, fully understanding.
"If you want to be together, you need to communicate. You've wanted this all your life, Maya. I'm telling you to go for it." Riley had changed from ice to rainbows in seconds. It was kind of magical to watch.
"You're right. I'm going to go. I'm going to fight for this."
Maya approached the dorm room her heart had previously shattered in. She peeked in, seeing a couple making out. Josh's damn roommate again. She politely knocked and was met by a red faced Josh.
"Oh, Hey. I was just doing some homework. I was actually about to go to the library because those two are about to get off or something." She laughed, but she felt as if she was interrupting him.
"Anyway, what's up?" She was going to go for it. Rip it off like a bandaid.
"Do you wanna end the long game? Do you want to be with me?" He turned away from her and as she started to walk away, understanding what he didn't want, she heard his voice.
"You know, Maya. I thought you'd never ask." And then, he kissed her. He really kissed her. Fireworks ignited, sparks flew, butterflies disappeared. All the emotions were in that one kiss. And it was all because of the words he spoke to her in the middle of a hallway.
"I thought you'd never ask." She let those words ring through her head for the rest of the day, the rest of the week, most likely the rest of eternity. Because the long game was finally over.
A/N: So there it is. My first official Joshaya oneshot. If you liked this, be sure to review and let me know. If you did, do you want another one or is this one enough? Thanks for reading.
