Broken Hearts Can Love
Nighttime had long since fallen. As he stared at the dark starry sky, Will LaMontagne was in a reflective mood. When he and the mother of his child had mutually agreed that it was best for all to separate, he had not expected to find love so quickly nor did he intend to find that love within another man. He had never given his sexuality any consideration before truly getting to know his life partner as Will had always been fond of blonde bombshells.
Their relationship had started out as acquaintances during Jennifer's pregnancy; his partner had worked with her for several years. From introduction to Haley Hotchner's funeral the relationship had stayed firmly in acquaintanceship, however when Jennifer and the team, minus Aaron, had been called away, Will and his life partner had their first real conversation. From that moment onward, they had formed a friendship that eventually developed into a bromance. It was not until a few weeks after the Jareau-LaMontagne split that their bromance would turn romance.
As clichéd as it was, Will had been at a bar nursing his broken heart over a beer. Although, the split was mutual and amicable, it had still hurt that Jennifer would always choose her career over him. He had chosen her over his, after all. He had been halfway through his first beer when his life partner had slapped him on the shoulder and sat beside him on the barstool to his right. Nothing out of the ordinary as the two had met for drinks several times over the years. However, that night something sparked, something occurred to both men, and eventually one thing led to another without the aid of alcohol.
That night had been nine months ago and not one day since had Will regretted it, because he had been given another chance at love. He was brought out of his thoughts as he felt someone snake their arms around his waist and place their chin on his shoulder. Will smiled, not needing to see who it was, because he knew from the smell and touch that it was his lover.
"What are you doing out here all alone?" His life partner asked as he tightened the embrace so that they were flush against each other. Will placed his hands on his partner's before their hands intertwined.
"I was thinking," Will answered letting his words trail off.
"About JJ and Hotch?" His life partner questioned, not at all threatened by his partner's past relationship. He knew that a part of Will's heart would forever be Jennifer Jareau's and he was okay with that, after all the pair shared a child. "Their wedding was tonight, wasn't it?"
"No, yes." Will answered before shaking his head and smiled wryly. "No, I wasn't thinking about Jennifer and Hotch. Yes, their wedding was tonight." He chuckled, "I'll always be amazed at how much reach and influence that Agent Rossi has."
"Hmm," His partner quietly moaned, before stating, "I'm amazed by Agent Rossi, period."
Will laughed, unthreatened by his lover's attraction for the older man, after all, he found Aaron Hotchner, the significant other of his child's mother, to be highly attractive. Jennifer had immaculate taste in men and that was not Will being arrogant, but the truth as he saw it. "Behave."
"Okay, okay," His partner murmured against his neck, before growing serious and asking, "What were you thinking about?"
Will paused, before finally vocalizing, for the first time, that he indeed loved the man embracing him, "That I'm thankful that broken hearts can love again."
His partner's breath hitched, before he smiled and replied, "I am thankful for that, too." He paused and directly admitted his love instead of subtly as Will had, "I love you, Will."
"And I love you, Anderson."
As they watched the night sky, they saw a shooting star, but neither wished for anything; because they had everything, they ever wanted and needed.
THE END
