"Don't drop me."
"I'm not going to drop you. I promise."
"Okay. But just don't drop me."
There was a quiet sigh, and then, calmly: "I told you baby, I'm not going to drop you."
There was silence, aside from the sound of a door opening, footsteps shuffling inside and then the door closing behind them.
"James?"
"Yes Carlos?"
"Don't drop me."
James heaved an exasperated sigh and gently set Carlos down on the couch. "There. See? I didn't drop you." He started to pull a blanket over his boyfriend but Carlos made a whining noise and kicked it off. "I don't want to lay down!"
James froze momentarily and then reached out to help Carlos sit up. "Babe you should take it easy, you just had all four wisdom teeth out."
Carlos waved him off and looked around through heavy-lidded eyes. "Helmet?" He called out, though he was hard to understand due to all the gauze in his mouth.
