Crazy Choices

My mind ran through all the possible choices. My favorite would never happen, so I should choose my second, right? I didn't think about Charlie. I started to think about Jacob but I quickly stopped that train of thought. I couldn't afford to second guess myself right now and I would have plenty of time to grieve later. I wasn't sure how long this entire thought process had taken to complete, but it couldn't have been more than a few seconds. I pulled away from Edward and took a step forward. It hurt so much, but this was what I wanted, right? What I had wanted all along. My dream come true—well, almost.

"Wait! Aro?" I was hesitant but I had made my decision. Everyone was staring at me at this point.

"Yes Bella?" Aro seemed calm and patient. Before I could answer, I heard Alice gasp in surprise. She must have seen my plan. Then I faintly felt Edward stiffen behind me, probably in response to Alice's vision. If Alice knew my plan; Edward had seen it too. I'm sorry, Edward. I love you. I didn't dare to look at either of their faces.

"Um…" I didn't know how to phrase my request. "Maybe it would be easier…for everyone…if I changed my mind?" I was only whispering but I knew everyone could hear me clearly. Aro seemed slightly confused so I clarified. "About joining you, I mean."

"Really?"

"On one condition, of course." My voice was strong and finally sounded as determined as I was. All the eyes in the room were fixed on me as if I was crazy. Well duh! I figured that out months ago, when I started hearing Edward's voice.

"What is your condition?" Aro seemed truly interested.

"I need permission to remain a 'vegetarian'." I began to giggle silently at the term.

Aro's face fell ever so slightly. "Is that it?"

"Yep!"

"Then you may stay."
