Thank You

Moi first fanfic! Kinda corny, I know, but give me a chance! T.T Carry on reading… I'd really like more encouragement!

She stared at him, her eyes defiant and angry. Yet he could see beyond the wall of will, the gentle sadness and a look of something he could not quite name...

All he could think about was how annoying she was being. Why did she have to make him feel so…so…guilty? His desperateness made him cruel, and he hardened his heart.

"You're a fool," he said, emphasizing each word. He saw her struggle to hide her emotions.

"You're annoying and weak and will never…ever…be good enough for me," he continued, driving the invisible blade in her chest deeper.

"Sakura…I…hate you." he stabbed her heart.

He saw something inside of her die.

Then he realized what he had seen in her now dull emerald orbs.

Resignation…and a sorrowful sense of acceptance…

It went as a shock through him. She was accepting that he hated her. That wasn't what he had expected. He wanted her to scream, yell, strangle him and cry… but her expression was almost serene.

Till this day, he didn't know what prompted him to say that. But the words slipped from his mouth.

"Do you still love me?"

Her answer was so soft he had to lean closer to where she lay on the ground.

It was also totally surprising.

"Does it matter?"

He straightened. "You're right. It doesn't." The tears he had wanted trembled from the corner of her eyes, and slid down her dirty, bruised face. He felt no pleasure.

She gave a soft giggle. It slowly broke into an ugly, bitter laugh.

"Then fine. I'll let you enjoy having a good laugh at me, Sasuke-kun. I do love you, more than anything else in the world, and always will."

Her voice softer now, she whispered, "I'm sorry I couldn't save you. And I hope you can forgive your brother and. yourself…and me…because I never will. Find happiness…because there will always be people who will love you…even when you have nothing else."

Sakura smiled. "Thank you for letting me see what a girl in love could do." The body beneath him went limp. Uchiha Sasuke lifted his head up.

The heavens were crying. Rain pelted down, washing away the blood, the dirt, leaving Sakura's face pale and purplish with the bruises. But she had never looked more beautiful.

Sasuke closed his eyes and something small and glistening, like a precious jewel, trailed down his face. And it wasn't the rain.
