Plip. . . Plip. . . Plunk!
"Hey, Yuki?" Kyou wondered as he picked up, yet another rock and skipped it across the river as it sunk down into the water depths below. The rat who was further up the hill, sat under the shade of a tree, reading a book.
". . . "
Kyou smirked. He didn't think Yuki would answer him, they had a fight just yesterday and they were together now only because Miss Honda had consoled them to spend some time together and make up. Another rock was skipped into the river and Kyou continued with what he was going to say before the rat got bored and wanted to go back home,
"Yuki. . . If I died tomorrow. . . who would you fight with?"
"Haru of course," the rat replied simply and with no hesitation at all. Kyou let out another smirk. It was just as he figured. Haru would take his place, the rat never questioned his motives. The rat always answered what was given to him without a single thought, without thinking how much each question meant something personal to the person asking. Kyou let out a laugh,
"Good. Now you won't be lonely. . ."
"Baka."
Kyou froze. The voice was a lot closer now, just right behind him. Kyou turned around to face the rat head on. He stumbled back, his feet slipping off the edge between land and water. A hand shot out and grabbed his wrist, pulling with all its might to bring Kyou back onto his feet, but Yuki fell back against the weight, pulling Kyou down with him. The two boys tumbled onto the ground, with Kyou bracing against the ground to avoid crushing the rat below.
"Baka. . ." the rat stated again.
"Is that all you can say?" Kyou laughed. The rat was anything but laughing, his purple orbs were now dark and his features were hard,
"If you were to die tomorrow. . . who will I say I love you to with all my heart? No one but you can fill that space. No one will ever hear those words but you, Kyou. Don't you ever think about dying when I'm around, you hear? I won't allow you to leave before me."
"Yuki. . ." Kyou whispered, he watched in slight amazement as a tear slipped down the rat's pale cheek.
"Baka," Yuki stated again and pushed the cat away as he sat up.
"Alright. . . " Kyou smiled, "I won't say that."
"Good, baka neko."
"Oi! I thought you were going to stop calling me an idiot! I'm not an idiot! Get back here, Yuki! Yuki!"
The question was never asked again outloud, but the question still remained in their minds. It was the one question that they refused to answer again.
