AN: Another roleplay journal based story. Genderbent!James Kirk is Leonard's best friend. He's so very proud of everything she has done.

----

Leonard tugged at his shirt collar, fighting the urge to undo every last little fastening on there, melt them down and dispose of them, as he did so. He hated them. But, he had to look smart right now. Scrap that; he wanted to look smart. Because he was here, watching his closest friend in arguably the most important moment of her life.

Relieving Admiral Pike, to take command of the Enterprise. She didn't have her usual swagger, and wasn't holding herself in that cocky way many at the Academy had coined as the 'Kirk Stance.' She looked every inch the respectable officer, beaming with pride at the position and responsibility being given to her. He saw the way she glowed, her eyes had lit up and finally she looked like she felt that she was somewhere she truly belonged.

He felt his pride in her right now was immeasurable. He would be the first to admit he gave her a hard time on occasion over her role, and her ideas. But he hoped she knew that really? He had no stronger faith in anyone else. He trusted her, quite literally, with his life.

Giving her the flagship vessel in the fleet was, he was sure, a stroke of genius on the part of the committee.

When all was said and done, she made her way over to Bones, who was waiting on the sidelines for his moment with her, just like he had promised her that morning that he would do. It made him smile to look back at the jumble of nerves she had been, and the almost frantic plea to him to just be there, Bones. Please? I need you there.

"Well, captain. Do you tell me now, or later, that I'm your cmo?" he asked her with a little smile. Jim threw out a hearty laugh, a hand swinging to place the most playful of slaps over one of his broad shoulders.

"Now you mention it Bones, I have to say, sorry, but the only position left on my ship, is plasma conduit cleaner. But you'll look real snazzy in those uniforms," her eyes still glittered, skin glowed, and her entire demeanor made him smile just as widely.

Though he did also have a roll of the eyes and shift of his arm around her shoulders to drag her closer, in response to her comment.

"I sure as hell ain't givin' up those big quarters of mine on the ship. If I have to barricade myself in, singin' we shall not be moved, you know I will do."

"We?" Jim replied, the left of her mouth twitching in pure amusement. Which earnt her another rolling of his eyes, and a playful slap to her shoulder, cutting her off before she could make some sort of lewd comment.

Leonard exhaled then, tugging her so her smaller frame was tucked against his side,

under his broad arm.

"I'm real proud o' you, Jim," he spoke up, his tone taking a softer, warmer turn, that she would be used to. He only ever used it on rare occasions. So rare that he suspected the only person he'd met in the last three years at the academy to hear it, was the woman tucked up under his arm.

Jim looked up at him, her eyes wide with pride. Though she wouldn't admit to it too much, his approval meant a lot to her. As her best friend, the one person she trusted above all others, it meant something to know he had high praise for her. "Ain't nobody better to do this," he continued. As his lips quirked up into a gentle smile, her own did too.

"Thank you, Bones," She replied quietly. As he leant down to drop the gentlest of presses of lips to her nose, he mumbled a simple "You'll do me proud."
