"Garfield, do you think I love you?"

Garfield's head snapped up at the sound of his name. He saw his fiancé, Raven, enter the common room after her regular meditation session. Her face held its usual monotone, but from the look in her eyes and the out of the blue question, her meditation wasn't as regular as he had thought.

"Is that a trick question?" He questioned, nervous about where this was headed.

"I'm serious Gar! Do you think I love you?" She asked again, her eyes narrowing to show her growing agitation. She was now sitting next to him on the common room couch.

"Of course you love me! If you didn't love me, you wouldn't have agreed to marry me, right?" His voiced became sheepish at the end. The comic book he was reading was now completely forgotten and his worry was growing stronger.

"Yes, Gar. I said yes because I love you, but what other reason do you have to think that I love you?"

Garfield's expression calmed by her reassurance.

"Rae, you're losing me here. What are you trying to ask? You know I love you and you just admitted that you love me. What could be wrong?" He looked at her with a confusion expression.

"Exactly what you said! I know you love me, because I can feel it. I could get drunk on the amount of affection you give off for me! But you can't feel what I feel, you're not an empath. How could you possible know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I love you?" Raven's eyes now bore into him. Garfield had a feeling that this was no longer a simple question. Would their entire future together be ruined because he gave her the wrong answer? Garfield mentally cursed her need to meditate. He learned over the years that too much alone time for Raven led to dangerous territory. If left alone for too long, her own mind would easily turn her against herself. Finally, after a moments pause that felt to him like an eternity, he decided on his answer.

"Because it doesn't take an empath to know you love me, and I certainly hope you don't need your powers to know that I love you too."

"There, that got her!" He thought.

"Well, it's not that I couldn't be able to tell; it's that I never have to. As an empath, it's almost instinctual. You of all people should know how that feels."

"Damn." He cursed.

"Well, maybe you should try looking with your eyes, instead of your powers."

Raven gave this some thought. Her gaze finally leaving Garfield.

"Fair enough, but you still haven't answered my question. How do you know I love you, if you can't feel it for yourself?"

Garfield was again at a loss for words. Was there any answer that kept him out of the dog house? Raven's sharp stare bore into him once again, and that's when his answer came to him. He let out a long sigh.

"Fine. It's your eyes. They give you away. You spend so much time hiding your emotions from your face that it all goes to your eyes. And every day I wake up, I look into those beautiful eyes, and I get to see you fall in love with me all over again." He explained in his honey-sweet voice, causing Raven to blush. She leaned away from him and pulled her hood over her face as she stood up.

"Good answer." She mumbled right before descending into the floor, through her portal. Once she was gone Garfield grinned in triumph.

"Nailed it!" He told himself before grabbing his comic book and continuing his reading. He couldn't help, but think about what his answer was going to get him later that night.
